Really nice review that. Not hysterical or anything just giving their point of view as a fan that obviously prefers the more melodic pop stuff.

Not listened to it for a few days... until this morning! It cancelled out the FD negativity over the weekend.

i think sentiments like this tend to overlook that there's probably a pretty huge faction of the fanbase, probably the biggest after all these years, who broadly just like good music whether it's light or dark. it hasn't been poorly received (to the degree that it has) just because it's poppy or something.
anyway listening to the bootleg, if the title track had been the lead single i for one would be a lot more positive about things. |

I really really like it!
The chorus got stuck in my head right after the first listen. It is quite catchy!

The strings are glorious and surprisingly at the front of the mix.

It has definitely grown on me.
I also think that its selection to be the lead off single has been justified.

Hmm.. i can't see the Manics having a big following who are in to downloading their music in a big way which is what all the big hits require these days.
I think the midweek position will be very positive, number 5 I reckon but by the end of the week will drop to about number 18 as final position. The second week it will be out the top 75 altogether. |

They did when YLAINE was released, which was a single deserving of the status. IIRC it even managed the astonishing feat of holding its previous week's position while in the top 20 around the third or fourth week. A first and last for a Manics single, surely.

Bunnymen fans might buy it by accident.
