I really like WMTTB, but that "Money needs money and slums need the poor" line does feel a bit shoe-horned in.

Oh man just found them. Futurology sounds pretty poor and the mix of sound levels is bad. Shouldn't play that live anymore, it doesn't work at all.

Sadly agree with this. Poor single choice, too.

Also, please do not crucify me kind folks, but this has been nagging me since the latest festival broadcasts - well, actually since the spring performances - does it sound to anyone else as if Wire is singing quietly/maybe even miming over a backing track? First performance in Cardiff was barely audible and seemed genuinely live (first performance I heard that is). Ever since then I've grown more and more doubtful. Especially Glasto and this one. Am I being heretic/dumb? Has this been discussed before and I am just bringing up old chestnuts?

I'm sure Nicky had a backing track he was singing over live. It sounded doubled anyway, but if you watch at the end of the chorus leading into the middle 8 he actually steps back from the mic and you can still hear his vocal.

Personally I have no problem with this.

And I love Futurology so nurr.

I've always seen Jools Holland as a show where bands perform naturally in the studio with other artists, than more prepared or live in concert. I liked seeing the manics on the show.

I thought I heard James continuing Futurology after they'd finished and Jools was introducing another band. I also think Futurology is great!

we'll see how revol sounds on friday but i don't think it's the songs, last year they sounded off aswell. It could just be the tv production… sometimes things just don't come across right on tv..

It sounded fine to me. It is live TV at the end of the day. Its difficult to get right. Will probably all sound fine on the proper show on friday night.

They should have mixed it in Dobly

Just watched Jools now - missed Futurology but I noticed EGDM was the same although had quite a few new camera angles in there from the version that is on Youtube. Revol was great and pleased James put in the "sha na na Revol" bit at the end

Backing vocals (rather than track)?

I meant a pre-recorded track of his vocals, including the lead vocal, that he was singing over the top of. So not really just backing vocals, no, I think at least parts of the lead vocal too.

I thought it sounded even more obvious his vocals were doubled/tripled on the longer show's version of Futurology last night. Again, I don't have a problem with it, it sounds better and probably helps Nicky feel more confident about singing live, and it's only part of the song.

Loved the Revol performance too!

Just caught up with it now (it's on iPlayer for anyone that missed it). Didn't think Futurology sounded that much different to the other day, still enjoyed Europa and extra Revol too. Have to say I'm looking forward to hearing all the THB tracks with just the band as a three-piece though.

Can't believe how good revol sounded compared to the new stuff. Europa sounded great too but Futurology just isn't a good single - decent album track.
