I've never seen the point of them either, but then I'm not into the technical side of music at all. They only interest me when there's a totally alternate take on the song, like the piano version of Suede's The Living Dead.

Off topic but the Manics should use more piano in their music...

Oh, I'd be going mad too. Our postie's a bit slack, rarely turns up before 10, often around 1. I want to go to shop but I don't want to risk missing the sod.

Yeah, I'm only really interested in demos for my top 5 or so bands, they're proper trainspotter territory. The acoustic ones on the Everything Must Go reissue were different and the Nicky one of It's Not War shows just what a massive reinvention the final release had so that's good. Living Dead is brilliant though.

Oh yeah, there's a great Motorcycle Emptiness acoustic from 92 just with James and a piano, love it.

I love demos... but alternate takes would also be good. I bet there MUST be an alternate take of Condemned to Rock 'n' Roll... or an alternate vocal take at the very least.

I'm happy with demos. The GT demos I've heard have a youthful energy to them that sounds great.

I was out today when my copies arrived and a note from the courier that he left the parcel in my vegetable waste bin! It was bin collection day today. Good job the bin men had not arrived and that I forgot to put my weekly vegetable waste in the bin!

My copy has arrived this morning - listening to the demos now - sound quality is nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.

Good to see the official store has learnt from the mistakes of last year. Enough protection to ensure they get to everyone undamaged this time.

I went straight to disc 3, naturally.

The remastering has had no positive effect on the old tracks. Pretty sure I've heard UK Channel Boredom, Faceless Sense of Void et al in better quality on old bootlegs. Behave Yourself Baby is a different, inferior but less twee take. The Billy Bragg comparison a reviewer offered makes more sense to me now. R.E.M., even...

Poleaxed is better than a lot of those old demos we'd already heard from that era. Spent All Summer is 'different'. This could be on their 'experimental new album! Colt 45 is Spectators of Suicide with different lyrics. JDB sounds better than he does on the Heavenly version.

Crucifix Kiss sounds about as close to the Sex Pistols as they've ever been. The different riff on Nat-West-Barclays-Midlands-Lloyds makes it interesting too.

Not paid much attention to the b-sides but they've ballsed up the beginning of Sorrow 16.

So what's the verdict on the remaster? Have they made it listenable?
