At first glance it seems a lot for the 42 disc set but I agree we need more details before being able to judge it. If it's only the singles (A-sides) themselves it's obviously way overpriced, but if it included all b-sides attached to each single it's really not (and by all I mean cassette/DVD/vinyl/download tracks too).

But it probably won't be that, so it probably is just silly.

But we don't know yet!

True, but those are mostly available on the japanese releases...why not just do something similar here?

OK, let's do some speculation here. We have 38 (37 +1 that is TITD) singles. If they press the original formats, the number of singles in the box would jump up to 59 as from Revol onwards all the CD singles except Masses, SWSS and FTS were released as 2CD sets. I still think that the discs will contain all B-sides including remixes, live tracks and 10"/7" extra tracks on 1 disc and the 3 DVD singles as their content cannot be transferred to audio discs.
Now for this the £180 tag isn't that ridiculous as Motown Junk CDs alone worth more than £50.

Update from the Manics' FB account:

"National Treasures released 31st Oct as a double CD, a 2CD+DVD featuring all 38 videos and some bonus video content and an amazing Boxset with 38x vinyl finish CD singles, a poster, a DVD of all the videos, 7" vinyl of New Art Riot, Suicide Alley (!), Jackie Collins Existential Question Time, Manics lipstick and vanity mirror and a limited number will also contain a 7" of Motown Junk. All the singles have been re-mastered."

No pic up yet from the box.

Lipstick and fucking vanity mirror? Why is this band constantly trying to turn its fanbase into Danny La Rue?

Is there really a version that's going to be over £180? I have pre-orded the 'deluxe edition' from HMV for £14.99 and it seems to have everything in it.

I wonder whether the fact that 'Motown junk' will now be available on CD..will kill off the cache that one has when you say 'Oh, would you like to see my Motown junk CD'?
Probably not...because, let's face it...who's gonna fork out the best part of £200 for this?
Wouldn't mind the W H SMITH vinyl version though....that's much more like it!
Nothing like that little bit of static crackle before MJ kicks in on a vinyl record*

* for our younger viewers, a vinyl record is one of those black plastic round things your dad has under that dusty old bit of furniture called a 'stereo' in the lounge!)

Yikes....!!!

Has everyone seen this? Just popped into my email!

"ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHRISTMAS PARTY AT O2 ARENA, LONDON

To celebrate the release of 'National Treasures', the band will play a unique, once in a lifetime Christmas party at the O2 in London. The band promise “Glitter, glamour, special guests and a ticker-tape celebration. A never to be repeated one-off visual experience encompassing 21 years of MSP with 38 songs – from 1990’s ‘Motown Junk’ to (but not in order!) 2011’s ‘The Is The Day’. There will be an interval in order to top up on refreshments and like all the best parties, you’ll talk about it for years to come and your friends will wish they’d been there.”

Tickets go on sale Friday 2nd September at 9.30am priced £32.50 and £22.50
....".

The question is...

HOW DO WE STOP THE TOUTS? I would kill for a ticket to this...but I can't bear the thought of shelling out to some skanky chancer!

How about if people get through....buy what they can...then sell them on her for face value? Don't like it, but it might be the only way!

Any thoughts?

There is already discussion of the gig in the tour section of the forum.

Realistically, I think it is unlikely to sell out, so hopefully everyone who wants to go should get tickets without paying inflated tout prices.

Well a new pressing of motown junk won't be worth 50 quid, nor will it change how many of the original mj there are, I guess.

Still, this makes the 180 pricetag amazing value compared to the pfaym box set....
