lifeblood in my opinion is clearly their last decent album. but i always enjoy the fact that these recent albums have 3-4 memorable tracks to add to their tapestry.

I always think if you're that fed up with them go and find another band that interests you. No one's stopping you!

To be fair he doesn't loathe them, he just dislikes their current phase but still loves the Manics and considers them a massive part of his life, just for balance.

Yeah, it's all very well people telling Pete to leave if he's fed up with the Manics, but can they stop reading and responding to Pete's threads that they claim to be fed up with? Of course they can't, we're all in the same boat of misery addiction here. Pete is being proactive. The fans who believe that what the Manics are currently doing is anywhere near good enough have to be in denial. I can't see any other explanation. These fans are content to sit back and watch the band humiliate themselves in public as they rip off Steps. Pete is not. It will be Pete who saves the day! Happyfeet sent me back from the future to tell you this. |

No, it's those who are telling Pete to go and enjoy other bands who are being proactive. If the only thing you believe in is getting a vicarious sense of self-worth from a band you're not in making good records then it's probably for the best that you re-evaluate your life. If PFAYM is shit it really doesn't matter. Pre-empting the shitness is just weird.

Basically, once again, you are being called to provide a reason why the future is what you believe in. It certainly looks like no matter what you say you will be wrong.

I can see why people could be bored with the Manics now as there is no Richey lyrics to be used etc. and no real excitement or story married up with Postcards From A Young Man.
It's obvious they are a different band when using Richey's words, but the least you could do is wait until the new album is released, give it a fair few listens and evaluate then.

Why did I even read the opening post? Bah. I just open my iTunes and listen to them more.

See, at least you're not in denial. You know shit will be tolerated, the Manics know shit will be tolerated. Shit isn't going to be tolerated by our new leader Pete, though. Follow him on his path to the promised land, don't stand in his way.

I think pete's got a fair point. It's not as if the Manics can't still write great songs (see JFPL). And I don't believe the reason that album was great was because of Richey's lyrics. Obviously they were good, but it was the band's willingness to try different things musically that made it. Now they've made a conscious effort to appeal to the masses again, and they've come out with some pretty dumb stuff. The three songs I've heard have been boring/ lacking in depth.
I kind of wish they'd stop worrying about what it means to be in the Manics, and what a 10th album should be, and I wish they'd stop thinking of themselves as two different bands and just start trying to be one consistent band, instead of consciously choosing whether to write serious music, or throwaway pop-lite. |

You know what, it probably will be shit, but all they can do is try. If I'm being honest, there aren't really any solely Nicky written albums that I really love, but I'm still curious to hear this one. And so are you, aren't you? You are, admit it!
