well, no, but if there is no point in anything that's not for the aim of getting the band to do anything, we might as well not discuss the manics at all and get rid of the forum. Fans like discussing things, and it's healthy to vent about things that irritate them about the band. That's the point.

I don't think it's laziness, it's just the way they view themselves and what they believe the majority of people want. It's not like fans haven't said stuff to them over the years about what they would like to hear played. Like when James played Archives Of Pain at Boston Comics. They are well aware alot of fans would like them to play different stuff but they just have this mindset. And you're right Hanna, it's not just Nicky. I know I sometimes make out it is though!

Maybe the arguments get so intense that Sean has said 'Just LEAVE THE SETLIST AS IT IS!!!!! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!'

Without a doubt it's laziness.
I can't imagine being in a band that has a back catalogue spanning 20 or so years, and playing almost the same set every night, on a 30 plus date tour. I'd be bored off my arse. |

I don't understand it either but what can we do? I'd want to get all those great songs played if it was me.

If I was them, I'd be proud of what I's done, and (the majority of) the music I'd made, and I'd want to get that across. After all the show is all about them and showcasing their career, and it doesn't seem like they have a large enough sense of pride about that. Of course, what I said earlier about the band not agreeing on an awful lot of songs is a factor, but the manics have produced a lot of storming great songs that never make the live sets. I think it's lazy, dull, and not especially a "greatest hits" set. Of course, I will still see them live every time they tour in the hope they'll change their minds and suddenly play some greats. Maybe they need a bit of a midlife crisis kick

I think the problem is they don't seem to have alot of confidence in themselves for some strange reason. Well it's like they do but they don't. Can't explain. (Will try and gather my thoughts for tomorrow at some point, it's getting late!).

It's a greatest hits, but it's about time they made it a best of . I just feel said, as how are the fans supposed to get infused about new stuff, and how are new songs going to become staples if they aren't played? The ones they did play were mostly brilliant.

I wish they'd let a fan choose a setlist for one gig.

depending on who won that chance, I think that could cause a huge amount of problems .
tonight, we shall be only playing Holy Bible B-sides. |

Here's the thing...
This is almost exactly the same discussion that takes place on almost every band forum I frequent. And it has become a problem because: a) People watch setlists like never before, with the instantaneous Twitter listings and immediate access to setlists of previous gigs b) A tiny tiny minority (ie those of us here) go to multiple shows on a tour. We are not normal. We are freaks who are not representative of greater than probably 5% of the crowd, and that's being generous. c) They've obviously got together a bunch of songs they enjoy playing. They didn't look bored playing them at any of the 3 shows I saw. Looks, i'd bloody love to have heard Yes, Stephen Hawking, Stay Beautiful, Little Baby Nothing, and probably any goddamn number of tunes at the shows i have just seen. And i understand why some of you, who have seen them over 30 times in the past 15 years would like it mixed up. but you come across as a bunch of Veruca Salts who want a setlist catered to the tiny minority of people at a gig who frequent this site (and others). WE ARE NOT NORMAL. I agree with Takk that they could change it up and not 'lose' half the crowd, but let's face it, if they changed the setlists every night we'd end up with threads like... 'OMG I can't believe they played YES last night! They didn't play it at my gig. Not fair' But the you're all spoilt thing... YOU ARE! |

If you don't count the live stuff, isn't it like three tracks!?
