I know, that's what I'd have thought but I read somewhere that if it's a multibuy and you buy it as essentially one product it counts once towards the singles chart.

Not that it deserves to make much of a dent really. Dreadful song.

I am aghast!

Regarding chart position I really have no idea - but I just want to get this off my chest:
What is so wrong with the song? Granted the video is weak, but the song is obviously heartfelt and once again different.
For those that expect Generation Terrorist/Holy Bible era manics, go and listen to those albums, they have been done - move on!
The reason this brilliant band are still going is because they try NEW things, and why not? If they kept doing the same thing they would be the same as all the other appalling bands out-there.
Each of their albums for better or worse are at least vastly different from the last. To me this is the mark of a truly great rock band.
I'm sure what I am trying to say has been said more eloquently before, but I had to at least have my say!
Right small rant over :0)
I must also say I admire 'The Gutless Wonder' for his/her (sorry I'm new here don't know your gender!) devotion - it makes me smile
Opinions are of course subjective, but blimey at the very least wish the band success! I'm pretty sure they were haing a pop at the negative internet posters in 'Masses against the classes' "Success is an ugly word especially in your tiny world" and I couldn't agree more.
Anyway, just my opinion, not trying to cause an argument - ignore me if you like :0)

I dunno, I don't actually "hate" (not like I hated, say Autumnsong) this song- I find it a bit bland, and not as good as it could have been, and a poor single choice.
Of course, yes they could be a much worse band, and I'm glad they aren't. But to me, they could currently be a much better band as well. Most of my posts in manics discussion will be on a negative note, purely because I love this band, and want to see them perform as well as they can. If I find something amazing, that will warrant one post from me, but I like to discuss why I dislike things. I think the same goes for a lot of people, which is why you can see a lot more negative posts on here than positive. If you like the song, that's fair enough, I can see why, It's just not to my taste.
personally I dislike this album. I find that particularly disappointing after how much I loved JFPL, but that's a very different sound and I appreciate them for flitting around sounds between albums, at least for recording purposes (I've said in other threads why I don't feel the same about them live) they try.

The song is beautiful and heartful, pulls at the heart strings. I love it to no end and listen to it most of Postcards easily. Videos naff, we all know this. Ah well.
If you buy the 3 format bundle it does count as 3 sales, yes.
If you think it's crap in all respects then whatever, don't support the band, I'm tired of reading posts saying SKON is shit and POstcards is a drab album. Be thankful our favourite (well, my favourite at least) band are still going and enjoy it.

Very good post. Well put.
I understand critisicm I truly do, and of course we all have different tastes. Personally I like the way they can release something as brilliant as JFPL and follow it with PFAYM, it shows versatility if nothing else!
I suppose I just think that poor record sales or negativity may one day make them split up! Bit of paranoia I suppose I'm sure they really couldn't care less lol
I hope they go on making such diverse music until they can't physically move!

I dunno, I think they had so much crap off fans and critics alike after KYE and LB (I disagree, I love them), that they've developed a thick skin on the subject. In fact I think the fact that they got a lot of.. at least divided oppinions from the get go (all the love them or hate them stuff from GT era) has made them develop a thicker skin than normal, and is probably what has led to the whole "we'll do what we want to do" attitude. Which is good.

Apart from Sean. We know how Sean hates it when we moan...

I like the video to SKON and can't see what the problem is with it. As said by someone else in another thread, of course as fans we can discuss and debate stuff but the band will always do what they want to do at the end of the day. That's the way it should be I think. It won't please everybody but that's how it goes. I hope the Manics realise they cause me terrible migraines stressing about them, what their fans think of them, what the media thinks of them, what the non-fans think of them!

Song is good, video is good, stop dissing, everybody.

I'd buy a hundred copies if I had the money. I'd hate to see the top-40 hit run for the band come to an end now.

Thought the instrumental version on the Football League show tonight was fairly good, better than the record. The title track would have been the perfect second single, but I doubt there'll be a third now.

I'm expecting top twenty.

I have to say, there are many of us who are as obsessed with the band just like Gutless Wonder. I love the variety of the Manics' output, and genuinely like all their albums. All except Failure Bound anyway but at least that's just one song. I loved JFPL and KYE, but also loved LB and TIMT. The variety is great, they still keep me motivated lyrics wise, and are still a great live act - I understand the setlist moans but as I only do 2 gigs a tour I don't mind anyway, I'm just pleased they are still doing music. The forum does seem to have changed in recent years with more criticism of the band, perhaps even more so than in the 90's when they really changed direction. Maybe that's more a reflection of the internet than the band though.

Anyway, I hope the single does well, I do wish though that the video cut to live footage at the climax of the song, that would have been euphoric.

That reminds me of the Smashey and Nicey sketch from Harry Enfield and Chums.

*hears mid week charts, leaves office, comes back 5 minutes later with 1000 copies of a single*

Reminds me of the scene in the Comic Strip Presents More Bad News when the band go in to a record shop and buy hundreds of copies of their own single in one go and they get disqualified from the charts.

It is wrong that I really want it to go in at number 30, purely for Blackstar thread reasons?
