It is a titan of an album, but whiteamerica frequently gets the fast forward button tbh...

This, exactly. Whiteamerica has never really held any appeal to me. I love the lyrics when I'm reading them, but as a song I don't really like it. I usually just listen to the "Next Thursday you're invited to watch Rising Tide's live coverage..." bit, and ten fast-forward. That bit always amuses me.

That - wouldn't mind it as a B-side or something but it does not belong on the Bible (other than as a hint of where they were going).
I absolutely love the way PCP rounds up the album with that sudden soaring optimism (musically/vocally, I mean) at the end - an almost sing-along mood that hints everything might just be all right. |

Mausoleum, for me, is the half of the TIHOE/Mausoleum pairing that *should* be on the album - it has all the anger, and an eloquent stating of the themes, but is high-paced enough not to slow down the album or overwhelm it.
have to disagree here - I don't think any part of THB is anger without an underlying sadness, and I think TIY voices that sadness/regret very well. it feels like a short break in which to gather your breath before continuing.

Agree with this!

I like both songs, but I agree with you on this. Mausoleum is one of my favorite Bible songs, and while I like TIHOE, I usually listen to it by itself.

I think The Intense Humming Of Evil is the weakest song on the album. It's not bad at all, in my opinion it's interesting musically, but I usually skip this one. It ruins the flow for me.

For me I wouldn't say TIHOE ruins the flow. I'm not really a fan of albums where most songs sound too similar, for me TIHOE just takes the album into a new, even more interesting direction. It can only be considered the 'lowest' point for me if you were describing it as epitomising the lowest standard of humanity, something conveyed by the rest of the songs but arguably to a smaller degree.

TIHOE is the best of the "Flange Songs" on THB ( )

So, in other words the best song on THB?

4st 7lbs and TIHOE are the ones I skip majority of the time.
4st 7lbs is just a little too much for me. I mean really thinking of the lyrics has me a bit shaken at times. TIHOE. Well for some reason, I was never really a fan of that one. I can't give an answer to that. I know this doesn't count but my pet peeve of THB was not having the B-sides on the 10th anniversary.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic song and the lyrics themselves are amazing but, whereas I can drive along the motorway shouting out the lyrics to ifwhiteamerica... I don't find I can do the same with 4st 7lbs. I don't suppose any of THB is intended to be a particularly rousing, singalong album, though... Actually having thought about it, I think 4st 7lbs is one of the strongest songs on the album, and by that I mean best but also the most emotional and powerful, and maybe that explains why I often skip it.

When I'm in the mood for listening to THB I HAVE to listen to it all the way through from start to finish. That's the rule!
