The lost masterpiece.
One day hopefully, and I look forward to that day

Is there the possibility that it hasn't gotten any funding, and the Manics management haven't helped in any shape or form, due to the fact that it might not be that good?

well they showed a screening of the film in sheffield last year and those that went liked it. I'm sure considering how critical some forum members can be they werent just being polite. The trailers i saw were great...my worry is that the longer they leave it the more out of date it'll become

I can't see how a financial issue with music licensing is a reflection on the production.

While we're all here, is there any news on the financial front?

If it gets to a point where funding looks impossible, I really wouldn't blame them for 'accidentally' leaking the film online...

I know it'd be nice to imagine Sony and the Manics would like to give music rights out for a reduced cost but that's not realistic in the music business at all. This is something that should have been the first thing to look at in creation of a film containing licensed material, if it was overlooked then that's just stupidity /blunt honesty. If they happened to leak out the interview/Q&A sections (as I care not for fan opinions at all, hyperbole stations at the ready) that'd be best unless someone became rich and provided them with the funding.

its not the film makers fault that sony went back on their promise. I believe they agreed to take their fee from royalties but now they want the money up front

If they had a contract signed for that (which is neccesary, spoken words mean nothing) they could realistically claim refunding for the costs of the film creation, albeit battling Sony lawyers isn't something I envy!

think it might've been verbal but i'm not sure it was that simple.. Elizabeth did explain earlier in the thread but i'm not sure what page

Ouch, verbal agreements can be broken easily, written is neccesary for proof (obviously) and for specific terms and usage of material. I feel a bit bad for the filmakers but that is nievity costing people.

How much do they need? What about fan funding? People chip in and get a credit or a DVD or whatever depending on how much they put in, and voila - le film is made!

I don't think they want to explore that at this point .
