Sounds like there are some interesting sounds on this one. Hope they've been a tad self-indulgent.

I never understand the comparisons they make. I don't mean in a better / worse sense - just that I can't hear the similarities at all. Perhaps there are musical ones that I'm not wholly spotting (as pointed out, James' vocal does have a similar delivery on it to THB era stuff on EGDM, as also does Nina Hoss, oddly enough), but the actual production / execution bears zero similarity to me. I'm very excited for Futurology, though - which I wasn't for Postcards and Rewind. I much prefer the Manics when they're being experimental and a wee bit bonkers. I also like keyboard sounds, much more than the played out guitars-meet-strings schtuff. Last edited by The Holy Bum-Bum; 08-06-2014 at 21:50. Reason: Hoss not Hoos |

Band themselves can hear similarities between their own tracks that not all fans can shock.

That said, I actually WOULD like to know the similarities. I don't mean this in a remotely 'show me mofo' way, I'd just actually like to know what they are, being that I have zero musical ability and am limited to what my wee-ears can sense. I'm guessing there are peeps lurking here who may be able to illuminate... |

Personally I think the verses of WMTTB sound quite THB-y, but people seem to think saying something sounds 'like' something means it sounds identical to, which I don't really get. It doesn't really matter though does it? I guess the guitar bends in EGDM are a little THB-y in places too. But my point was it seems daft for people *cough*Donkey!*cough* ![]()

Of course EGDM sounds nothing like what they claim it to. Nothing ever does. Whether it's deceit or wishful thinking, only they know.
What EGDM actually sounds like is Kasabain-lite. And the new Kasabian album already has that market sewn up. |

I get the THB comparisons. There are loads of jagged post punk rhythms by the sounds of it + don't forget that Empires and Dance influenced bits of The Holy Bible (I think James gave the band copies to listen to whilst they were recording.) Thirty Frames A Second = Mausoleum...

"Failure is not an option"
Can't believe they included that. It goes against every lyric Nicky has ever written. |
