Loved the gig and thought they were on top form but think something which holds such a big crowd it would have been better as a 'Greatest Hits' setlist. I was about half way back on the side and could'nt hardly hear the first half as most around me were just standing in groups talking and shouting or queuing for drink! at one stage a group were singing happy birthday to someone! they listened a bit more to the second half but can't understand why people pay nearly 40 quid for a ticket just to listen and enjoy 3 or 4 songs

Well let's face it, that will probably be the last time we see it live!

Aye was good to see you and Chloe again, along Alex and Lauren. Hope you enjoyed the second set, we had to go and find my mate Millsy who went missing pre-Holy Bible set! We found him but thought we'd have no chance of finding you guys again...

Ah this makes sense. I watched the broadcast today and it was a shame to see some Holy Bible songs missing. But I'm of the school of thought that some Manics on telly is better than no Manics on telly. And Condemned was on the telly, which was boss.

Far be it from me to chime in on something that's nothing to do with me but I feel I have to say something here.

How else do you expect gracie to react when you make a point of their age somehow nullifying their opinion? I get it. You can wave your "I've been a fan for over twenty years and have seen Richey live" schlong about all you like, it doesn't make what you're saying justified, nor does it mean gracie can't have an opinion (or that yours is more valid) just because of their age. They were hardly outraged last night, just concerned. Some of the worst offenders were long time fans. I don't agree with what they said but they're entitled to their opinion and we can all gently rib each other without being cruel as you were to gracie. It's just petty.

The sense of ownership some older fans feel is just perverse.

There was no typo.

I went to three of these gigs and I'm still disappointed. I'm not going to say the band should quit or any nonsense like that but this was an opportunity to capture in full the album the band have been touring the past 6 months. Some of these songs haven't been captured on video before yet we get all of the songs that have been broadcast hundreds of times.

As for the stupid notion of the holy bible is not suitable for TV, This is utter bollox. If they can broadcast the first line of yes and the end of walking abortion (or even just say the title) they can pretty much broadcast the whole thing without worrying about offending anyone else. That is really a non-argument these to be honest. The whole point of the gig was TO PLAY THE HOLY BIBLE IN FULL. Unless the band are releasing a DVD later this year, it's pretty fucking ironic that the BBC decided to PLAY ALL THE HITS IN FULL PLUS SELECTED HOLY BIBLE TRACKS. The gig was about the holy bible, not the hits, I don't it's wrong for people to have expected that the broadcast should have reflected that.
To be fair, I don't think I actually said in my post that people have no right to be disappointed, or that THB is not suitable for TV (perhaps you were responding to someone else with that latter point)?

For what it's worth, I don't disagree with you, as a cult fan myself, I would have liked to have seen THB in full on BBC too. However, I honestly think 18 songs is significantly better than nothing, which let's face it is what we thought we were going to get a while ago before we knew the BBC were even considering showing something. I guess where I'm coming from is that in my opinion it's hard to have a go at the BBC for doing what they did, given their target audience is not us (i.e. not cult manics fans).

When I was reading through this thread this morning, before I posted earlier, the vibe from last night just felt like "entitlement", which in my view doesn't come across very well, it's actually quite ugly. Let's face it, we as fans aren't "entitled" to anything really, and it just seemed to me that we should be happy for what we did end up getting (much more than usual or expected) rather than resenting what we didn't end up getting. (This isn't intended to be a dig at you, or anyone else, it's just how I felt).

Being brutally honest, I think all the fans who went to the Castle hoping to hear Comfort Comes after it was promised (I'm sure there were some) have more of a grievance than we do about what was and wasn't played on the BBC! (Although these people should probably know by now not to believe everything they hear the band say).

Will they bring out a DVD? God knows. If they bring one out of this particular gig, I don't think it'd be worth buying - because we've seen it all already on tv (largely). I would far rather they brought one out from back in December - in my opinion, the indoor gigs were more atmospheric, and the gigs in December far better "performances" of THB tracks than what we have seen this week.. However, that's just my view, and I'm sure others would disagree.

Righto, back home now.

An interesting gig. Setting was fantastic - ManicsFest! They had food stalls and bars and everything. Nice and spacious. No trouble getting in or to the front-ish at 8PM, as t should be.

The Holy Bible played in the sun didn't quite work I'm afraid (you couldn't really see the camo netting either). But it got better as the night wore on and things got darker.

Great to hear some unusual stuff in the 'hits' set (spoilers!)

Crowd were a little bit subdued and it reminded me of the Blackwood miners gig from a couple of years ago - got the impression a lot of people went because it was local to them. But that's a good thing, new fans and new blood and all that.

Also got the chance to spend an amazing couple of days in Cardiff and the experience was made all the better for some amazing company found on the Friday day... night... and Saturday morning!

10/10 would gig again.

A bit surprised by some of the negative comments re the gig on here, but is anyone on the FB group 'Manic Street Preachers Army'? Jesus fuck, it's full of folk saying how shit the gig was, an opinion most seem to have formed from a seat in front of the telly in the comfort of their living room.
While I'm at it, I cannot be arsed with people moaning about 'casual' fans. I'm pretty sure there were a lot of casual fans there, but not everyone who stands a little bit further back and doesn't jump about much is a casual fan. I've been following the Manics since way back at the start. I'm 40 next year and my days of jumping around at gigs are in the past. Now I like to just listen and soak it in. Don't think it makes me any less of a fan than someone who shouts every lyric... and just because I don't shout every lyric, it doesn't mean I don't know the lyrics... or understand them (which is more important).
As for the casual fans, I have absolutely NO problem with them - if it wasn't for casual fans, they wouldn't be playing gigs like last night's! Still having the pull to do special shows in front of big crowds, like the castle gig or the National Treasures gig, is one of the things that keeps the Manics going, in my opinion. For what it's worth, I was there and thought the gig was amazing.

Just watched the gig on the BBC I-player - much better than I expected after a lot of comments on here. Shame not all the songs were shown but it's better than nothing and to see a lot of these songs played live and shot professionally is awesome. The crowd looked mostly statue-like, my girlfriend even commented (she's not the biggest Manics fan) that the crowd looked rubbish. I enjoyed it overall and would to see a full release on DVD or whatever. PCP was the highlight for me I think. Oh and the fireworks were a nice touch indeed and the guitar smashing made me smile Love this band.

Just as a point of interest, I'm someone who thinks THB does work in the sun. I think the moodiness of that album needn't be accentuated by dark nights and howling winds; it finds its greatest expression in the sunburnt bleakness illuminating every vapid crack in our postmodern world. I think there's nothing more powerful than something like THB screeching out and revealing anguish to what announces itself as potentially beautiful or relaxing. It's an album which finds no happiness resting in the sun anylonger; it wants to Die in the Summertime. It's almost Heideggerian. Definitely Situationist.

Thiiiis. I really hate slagging off of 'casual' fans, like does it really matter? It turns fandom into a competition and it's ridiculous. There's not enough space at the front for all of us anyway and sometimes you just want to hear James sing the song, like you paid to do. It's not karaoke!

I was also there and thought it was great. The TV can never give an accurate display of the atmosphere.

I've watched it again and put the subtitles on. "Dumb punt same dumb question"
"Cock" was still typed (James's "How the fuck you doin'?" wasn't)
And "Tie his hair in bunches LOCK him call him Rita if you wan't".

And I noticed at the end James took it out on his cousin and called his surname "Moron"!
I can't see the band have been in the mood to have said that 10 or 20 years ago.

If it does become a DVD, and yes please! Then they should make sure the subtitles are done by a non-BBC company.

There were some knobheads around but I enjoyed it more than I thought, considering I don't like a) outdoor gigs and b) The Holy Bible.

Perfect end to a lovely tour x

Oh, and I think THB works better in the daylight too.
