The whole "restrained album with low-key tour followed by angrier album with a big tour" idea seems to have died on its arse. I hope Futurology does well, but if it weren't for actively following the band, I'd have no idea a new album was due.

But equally, I'd be happy if a proper album tour (rather than the pre-album tour) didn't happen for a while just so I don't have to worry about money. Because I'm a selfish sod.

In the recent TPI article about the recent tour, Angus Jenner (their tour manager for those who don't know) is quoted as saying that another tour is planned in the Autumn, but with more arena's apparently.

I wonder when they'll release another single / video? Did WMTTB even make the top 200 or was it not a proper chart eligible single?

I am confidently predicting that we are being hoodwinked and the songs that we've heard thus far are far and away the best on the album - while the others are SATT-esque album tracks at the very best. I can't help feeling it's going to be a big letdown.

Even so, if by "the songs we've her so far" you include the ones we could only hear on fans' live recordings, which were pretty good, that would make almost half of the album anyway.

I dunno, the other tracks sound pretty promising based on descriptions/reviews. Looking forward to Between the Clock and the Bed and The View From Stow Hill.

The album and singles haven't been marketed very well which is an absolute shame really.

Simon Price tweeted that it's his 4th favourite Manics album, after Journal, EMG and THB

hasn't it? The marketing has been the same as any other 25 yr old band really. There's been articles in the music press, reviews.. the website and facebook have been updated and the radio is playing the songs with more radio to come.

I never know when albums are coming out, I didn't know about Beck, Tori Amos, Paul Heaton, Damon Albarn untill i saw them listed on Amazon.

As for singles.. i haven't seen a NEW SINGLE OUT NOW advert in ages. I've noticed jack white has a single out… no clue when it was released. I'm sure he's doing alright.

Every new Manics release is, according to FD, marketed really badly. No matter how much press the band get, people always blame Sony for not doing enough.

Singles market is dead now isn't it? I think they've been quite clever really as they are promoting the album more than pushing a specific track. Getting the promo videos out there early has raised awareness and I am forever seeing adverts for Futurology when surfing the internet. Let's see how high it charts first before we make our minds up as to whether the marketing has been upto scratch.
