Just finished watching it on YT. Really enjoyed it and had a good laugh at the suffering of the poor bass.

I'm sure when Nicky threw his Bass it landed on James's pedals as James looked at him and shook his head. Probably didn't help the Bass's fate

Well I really enjoyed the show. They were always going to do a good number of the classic hits but also put plenty of 'rarities' in the set. Condemned and Removables obviously but also Platitides and Sex... You have to accept that outdoor shows at this time of the year will be mainly in daylight and that the sound will vary in quality depending on where you are [and how the wind carries it]. We were at the front but on the left hand side right in front of the low speaker stack and the sound was actually amazing.

The 40 mile tailback on the M4 coming up was very painful though and a journey that should have taken 2 1/4 hours lasted 4 1/2!

Gonna bypass alot of the negativity towards this -

Travelled down from Durham on Friday morning and went straight to watch Maniac Street Preachers/A Design For Live, great show guys! The gig was fantastic, perfect setting. Holy Bible in all its glory was fantastic once again. It would have been great to hear a few more rarities in the 2nd set but hey I'm not complaining.

BBC footage was really cool I thought!

I'm glad I saw the bible in Dublin last year.
Watching it back though the boys played great, it was just the sound, setting and crowd that made me not enjoy it.
This sums it up best for me. Where I was, and I did move a number of times hoping to find more atmosphere, the sound was just too quiet to cover all the people standing around chatting, giving the first set the feel of a support band. I thought it was pretty telling that after leaving a gap for a singalong in the first chorus of Yes James didn't try it again.

I completely understand not everyone wants to be jumping around/singing along, but the amount of people around that didn't even clap between songs, as well as the many people audibly moaning about not really liking the album really put a downer on it for me.

Regarding 'casual' fans, it's fine for people not to know every song, but the problem is when people only care about one or two songs, and pay no attention to the rest.

The band played really well and the second set was undeniable livelier but my spirit was already a bit crushed by then. It's the tenth time I've seen them, and after this experience it'll probably be the last. They just mean too much to me to put myself through that again.

Got back yesterday so have had some time to sleep and watch the BBC coverage and reflect a little.

I loved the gig. The HB was not as intense as the winter gigs, but then i did not expect it to be as an outdoor gig is always going to have a different atmosphere. I got quite emotional at a few points during the second set, the setting brought out the melancholy.

I'll echo a few on here and say we were stood next to a group of 4 blokes who stood with their backs to the band talking and knocking back the bottles of lager they had stocked up from the bar. I don't understand that mentality, if you want a drink and a chat go down the pub. They probably spent the rest pf the weekend telling everyone what an awesome gig it was despite the fact they weren't even watching it. After 4 songs we moved and stood near a couple who decided to sort of tango their way through the gig, much more fun!

As for the BBC coverage, i was just glad they showed what they did and happy they got some TV time. Bit vexed that they dropped JDB's guitar breakage as 'guitar's gone' is now my new catch phrase when something goes pear shaped! We unintentionally stood in front of a camera, so appear quite a lot in the first few songs before we moved to get away from the dickheads. Fortunately just the back of us, but was pleased to see my new wood nymph headdress looked rather fine.

As we were walking around the moat to get in at the back entrance I had to smile as a steward explained to a woman who had just decanted a load of kids from a car that no this wasn't the queue for One Direction

Anyway back to life, back to reality....

He IS getting better. Remember how they wouldn't play PCP for years because it was "too fast for sean" - then it came back as a slowie, now it's up to full speed

I bet all this training he's doing for Patagonia is helping - although he said he was worried about his shoulders.

Well I was just on the radio talking about the concert! I got a surprise phonecall from a radio DJ saying 'if I put you on hold can I talk to you about the gig after the next song!' Sure how could I say no!
