It definitely sounds like an 80's TV theme tune of some variety. Interesting! Not sure I'd feel the need to put it on repeat, but I'd like to hear it within the context of the rest of the album.

Aye, very intrigued to hear what sounds they've conjured up on this album. Never expected a sound like this from them.

Can I just add: Simple Minds keeps getting thrown at them this time around, is anyone else hearing '80s Rush? They're Rush fans, and I can definitely hear echoes of Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure here.

I decided to register just in case something regarding the wait for Futurology made me extremely excited, but up to this point it was more of a quiet anticipation, but nothing too big (even though Europa Geht Durch Mich is awesome).

I decided to login today to see if something finally happened that would change that.

And now, I decided to post because Dreaming a City (Hugheskova) is impossibly great. Like, seriously. Simple Minds' Theme for Great Cities all the way, but with modernised-sounding production (listen to those synthesiser bleeps). And with a good deal of video game music-vibe mixed in. OK, so maybe not like Theme for Great Cities at all... but still just as fantastic as that classic instrumental. That bass riff is something to adore. If the singles, this song and Let's Go To War are representative of the quality of the rest of the album... I am so much looking forward to this release, could very well potentially substitute Lifeblood in my top3 Manics albums.

Oh, and by the way, hello everyone. ^^

There is, perhaps, a bit too much going in. It sounds like 4 different instrumentals.

Alex, you've hit the nail on the head. I guess it's a bit more Starfleet than Sonic!

Well not on the C64 maybe, but there were plenty of Amiga/PC/Playstation games with real instruments in the soundtrack, whether through samples or later mixed with CD tracks...

Which is irrelevant to something sounding 'like' something else anyway. Something reminding you of something else is not saying you think it's identical. It can be the tone/timbre, the melody, the production … etc.

But things sound like they sound like to people don't they? There isn't a right and wrong.

Exactly! Shut up, Khiz!

It's still going around and around in my head this morning, always a good sign in my book.

Listened to it again this morning - it definately grows on you but I need to hear it in the context of the entire album really. I'm not really a huge fan of instrumentals as it is.

I did enjoy it, but like you I'm not one to listen to instrumentals very much. I only ever listen to them in the context of an album.
