Imagine that but poppier, with some big James guitar and a huge Manics chorus, and I think you've got a winner.

In order of preference, I'd love to see (hear):
1. krautrock-y things, of the more motorik, ambient kind 2. electronic stuff like TBTGOG, Lifeblood b-sides, etc. 3. more of that post-rocking Perhaps on one album. Let Nicky compose, James write the lyrics and Sean sing.

I've been thinking about what I've said earlier in this thread, and it makes a lot of sense.
Been listening to Low and Heroes by Bowie a lot lately (Happy Birthday Bowie, by the way, you freaky old bastard you) and knowing that the band are huge fans of those albums (even using Speed of Life as intro music) I'm come to a few theories. There are a lot of echoes of Low on tracks like The Vorticists, You Know It's Going To Hurt and ESPECIALLY (the fucking INCREDIBLE) Alien Orders/Invisible Armies. Seeing as the band have recently said that 'the age of the rock single is dead' and that they're going to 'indulge' in the art of the album, I hope that they lean towards making an album in the style of Low - weird rock soundscapes sandwiched between brilliant pop songs. This would also accomodate for Nicky's love of kraut-rock and James love of old-school Motown melodies and huge guitar choruses. As much as I love Lifeblood, they took their Bowie-influence in the wrong direction and made something beautiful, but slightly lifeless. Let's hope they take it in the right way and stamp 'MANICS' all over it this time.

It would be even easier for Nicky to come up with one of his typical soundbites: "It's like Low being played by The Pistols and The Supremes"

A concept album. No idea what the story will be, but if they are convinced the single is dead, then a huge sprawling double album might be on the cards. Their version of "The Wall". But with better ideas. And better music. "70 Songs Of Failure And Hatred" could be turned into a narrative. It doesn't even need to have orchestral stuff on it. They could take ideas from "Lulu". Only with better singing than Lou Reed.

I rarely think concept albums works very well, so I'd rather just have a standard record.... or maybe that city-song album they once talked about.

Naw, not like that. The 'cities album' project was something they were toying around with before Lifeblood. Songs inspired/namechecking cities, like Stockholm Alone, Cardiff Afterlife (the only survivor of the project), etc.
