I think you should have an admission charge. Even something like £2.50 each will help with your costs.

I think there may be problems with charging a specified cost, as that would turn it into a commercial screening, with attendant problems.

I just thought that as this is an independently made film that a little contribution would help them. Maybe help them to get a release date with a little funding. I did makeup for a local film and that was two years ago and it's till in production!

It's just an informal showing, they can't charge for it because it brings up rights issues, I assume.

Asking for a specific amount would be a problem. Asking for an informal donation towards screening costs wouldn't. Give what you think is fair, people.

Have you had the desired clearing from the manics management about screening this? Do you have the copyrights on music used for something that is not official? Apologies if these have all been answered elsewhere.

AK, if you read the other threads about this there's a lot of legal issues involving Sony as a record company. I believe management are fine.

We don't have legal issues with Sony regarding the film itself. The issue is that we have to pay Sony for music rights and clearances up front before we are able to do an official release of the film. We would only have legal issues with Sony if we tried to commercially exploit the film (i.e., selling DVDs or charging for showing it) before these rights and clearances are paid for.

The screening being held on Saturday is informal and in no way an official commercial release. It's simply something we're doing to thank the Forever Delayed community for its support over the years and to give people who are in the film a chance to see themselves.

I appreciate what you are saying but it was something I was wondering. I am sure news of this event is elsewhere on other faucets of the internet and surely isn't purely being discussed on this forum? The reason I asked is because when I was in University studying film and media, a group of us directed a short movie about the local area and we used music on the soundtrack but we didn't have permission to use it and because I had been discussing it on a forum, a rather finnicky member reported the film to the management of the band who's music we had used. I recieved e-mails from an admin on the forum explaining that I had been tracked down via an I.P and could be looking at being sued for showcasing the movie in a public place without relevant official clearence. I had to spend a few weeks toing and froing with the management, explaining the exact nature of the film and why I wanted to use the two tracks chosen. Eventually the management decided that I couldn't use those particular tracks as they were being used for national adverts but gave me clearence to use other tracks. It was 6 weeks of absolute hell and in the end we decided to record our own music for the film.
