4 Lonely Roads was wonderful. Middle bit certainly sounded odd, Cate did an excellent job, sounded better than on the album. Decent crowd throughout, especially two pissed cunts who barged in front of me for the hits then remained dead for Revol. Great venue too.

Jason, sound to meet you, hopefully see you again one day.

Good thinking. I don't really visit Queenonline much, I tend to go to Queenzone. It's FD for Queen fans And funnily enough I've bumped into some FDers on there!

Not sure if anyone mentioned, but James was on bass for 4 Lonely Roads. I think that's the first time I've seen him play bass live in 12 years!

Anyone know what time they came on stage tonight? I'm getting to Bristol on Monday at 8:40pm! Leaving it a bit late, I know..... I don't wanna miss anything, although I can live without hearing ME for the umpteenth time.

Right.

That was properly wonderful. I'm a bit shaken up by it all. The venue was tiny, and I was right on the barrier in front of Nicky (always my favourite spot), and the gap between the barrier and the stage was so small! I feel like that was the closest I've ever been to Nicky/the band (though thinking about it I probably feel like that every third or fourth gig anyway). The crowd seemed really happy and up for it, but never got too hectic. I don't think anybody bumped into me at all. THIS SUITS ME VERY WELL.

I was also right up next to a speaker stack. By the midway point I was hearing songs through a haze of feedback and tinnitus, and the final half dozen songs were accompanied by a series of strange fizzes, hisses and squeaks that I suspect were my eardrums tearing themselves to shreds. The right ear was actually bleeding a little when I got back to the hotel. Hearing slowly returning to the left though. Was also having trouble walking in a straight line on the way back, but I've just realised one of my toes is broken so it was probably that. Glad I'll be back in a country with an NHS soon

For the first half Nicky wore his red velvet suit from the RTF promo photos, and the second half was white jeans/jacket with his sailor hat. He claimed to be wearing the white jeans in honour of playing there back in '91 or '92. Story about a lovely Sunday dinner at a local hotel the next day, Richey being a little worse for wear and Nicky ending up in hospital with damaged hamstrings (or something).

James and Nicky seemed to be bloody loving it and were really, really active. Nicky was a lot more lively than Hyde Park and Newport, and was star-jumping left right and centre for almost every song (I lost count of the number he did during YSTSFMH!). James was doing all his fanciest manouvers and bouncing around the stage like nobody's business. It's hard to describe just how bouncy James was, but if you can imagine Tigger, on Christmas morning, after consuming a few too many E-numbers, and maybe being stung on the ass by a wasp, then you're probably about halfway there.

James' mic stand slipped down and he sang almost all of 'You Love Us' in a squatting position Later on he joked that in a few days they'd be cancelling gigs because squatting down had given him a hernia. He touched himself up and said "I genuinely can feel something down there... feels kind of nice though"

In all seriousness, I bet they do end up in traction or something from overdoing it tonight

They've nicknamed the Trumpet player 'Trumpet Bale'

I'd pretty much convinced myself that 'Ready For Drowning' would only appear at Festival No6, so when it turned up as the second song I was gobsmacked. Oh, it was joyous. I cried stupid amounts. IT SOUNDS AMAZING LIVE AND THEY SHOULD PLAY IT EVERY TIME.

Ready For Drowning put me in such a good mood that I actually pogoed during YLAINE. Well, I say pogo though I only did two or three of them, but I think it still counts, right? I was still a lot more active than I usually would be. Great mood in there tonight.

Five songs from TIMTTMY, six from RTF. I guess the two albums compliment each other well. Six is better than PFAYM ever got!

Nicky thanked the crowd and 'the people of Ireland' for getting RTF to number 5 in their charts. I only mention it because throughout the gig I got the impression James and Nicky are really, really pleased with and proud of the response to the album.

James was introducing/thanking Wayne and forgot where he comes from. "He's all the way from..." *runs over to Wayne to ask him*

Cate Le Bon was lovely. Just her and her guitar, up on stage as the support act, was incredibly beautiful and moving. It occurs to me that usually the crowd seems to be inherently hostile towards the support acts, whereas tonight there was built in loyalty and affection because of Cate's appearance on the album. Which is interesting,... if you find that sort of thing interesting.

During 'Four Lonely Roads' James went and stood by Wayne so that the focus was on Cate and Nicky. He so humble!

Gah, brilliant night. I've probably already forgotten half of it. Which is good really, because I've clearly been chuntering on about it for too long. Really though, best Manics gig I've ever done, and I'm now really glad I made the effort to come over for it because I was so close to skipping this one.
