Just watched it and the extras, fantastic. Enjoyed every minute. What was the song James and Sean were working on about 34 minutes in? Didn't recognize it? Also I remember there was footage of James performing a song that didn't make it on to SATT, Spring something something... I hope that pops up again at some point.
Also I was rather impressed with the video quality of a lot of the TV footage. Last edited by Nobody; 17-02-2015 at 16:23. |

If I'm thinking of the same bit it was a different arrangement of Fearless Punk Ballad.

The bits in the studio and when they were knocking around song ideas were definitely my favourite bits.

At the Manchester screening the director said that they had recorded so many hours of footage overall. Can anyone remember how much they shot?
What do the directors plan to do with all that extra footage of the band?! The documentary left me wanting so much more, it was so funny. I just loved watching them in the studio I'd love to just sit in the corner and watch them work at creating and recording their songs. How does it feel to spend so long on recordings and to know so much was left out? I had so many questions but the Q&A flowed so well and there were so many questions I didn't ask then |

I'd happily watch more of the behind the scenes stuff but I found some of the fan interviews excruciating.

Just bought my copy today & watched it as soon as I got home. Loved it. Weird & wonderful documentary full of both weird & wonderful people all talking about a weird & wonderful band. I thought it was great.
Was interesting to see James' opinions of the Cuba gig around 2007ish (?) & contrast that to the lyrics in Last Jet to Leave Moscow which - if I'm not mistaken - he wrote...????

One thing I remembered yesterday that was in the 2012 version and not the final release was fans stating what their favourite albums were, which now I've remembered it being in seems a bit of an odd thing to have cut out entirely. It wasn't a tedious, laboured bit that went on and on, it was pretty quickfire and interesting as it showed how much love there is for the bands' work right across the board. Considering how much footage made it through regarding, say, the Underdogs debacle - as entertaining as it is! - I just wonder why things like that didn't get whittled down a bit more instead. Obviously the film is about the band, and they're what we want to see most, but I do feel the fan segments maybe took too much of the brunt of editting and come across the worse for it.
Also, I still want Sean Moore: The Movie. Rush release to take on Shaun The Sheep: The Movie please.

What kind of stuff was asked by fans then? Ta.

Nothing. Half of them were narrating the bands history which I just found cringeworthy, the whole 'richey had something wrong in the head' kind of stuff. It was fine when fans talked about how they felt about the band personally but the documentary seem to stray away from that for some reason.

I enjoyed the fan interviews myself.; preferable to Simon Price and a load of celebrity fans and hangers on.
I think it's worth remembering that they're not journalists or people who are used to being talking heads on things. I am sure for some it was the first time they'd been interviewed on camera. |

Started watching the extras - the Sean & Nicky extended interview was okay for the most part, I can see why it got cut - but I highly enjoyed the argument they have about culture. Now onto the next... (I am enjoying this purchase)

I warned my friend before watching it that that particular moment was the one big cringe. But generally I think the fans did well talking about the band, although I'm admittedly biased. Well, everything I said was pretty banal and (hopefully) inoffensive anyway.

Kind of the point really, a lot weren't at ease and it showed. And I wouldn't have minded but a lot of the history narration was just wrong. It just looked awkward and it is something that people are noticing in the reviews. I know Nicky gets it wrong half the time himself, probably more than half, but I'm paying to see Nicky, James and Sean who at the very least are a bit more natural in front of the camera. I don't mean any disrespect to those on the doc, I'd be guilty of the same if interviewed and asked to come up with stuff on the spot, but as a viewer it pulled me out of the documentary. The segments where the fans talked about what the band meant to them were fantastic because they brought their personality out and honestly, the documentary could have done with a lot more of that. Manics fans are the most intelligent and interesting fans out there, it feels like there was a miss opportunity there.
