What???

Until very recently I was in a fairly well paid 'office job'.
However I am from a council estate in a very working class town (albeit with tory roots).
Just because I worked to get promotion, does that mean I am therefore middle class?
So because I want to better myself, I can no longer be working class? I find that insulting.
I believe class is something you are born and bred into. Even if one day (please let this happen!) I became very well off, I would still consider myself to be of working class origin.

Why does it matter what class you're defined as anyway?

Good question.
I suppose it has to do with pride.
It shouldn't define you, but it obviously is a very big part of you!
Nurture plays a huge part in our development as human beings.

I've never really known what class I am, maybe lower middle class? Either way it doesn't really bother me.

Honestly, it is time to record one massive swansong – i.e. a “Beat Surrender” – and write a super pretentious “goodbye” letter… and then end the band.

Unless Richey feels like reappearing and revitalizing the band…

I'm from working class routes as well, but I can't turn around to someone cleaning my office desk and claim to them that we face the same challenges. Personally I believe class is about lifestyle not where we're born and bred, and I don't think 'better myself' is a relevant term as it implies there is something wrong with you.

After reading this thread, I think the next album should be called 'Form Is Temporary, Class Is Permanent'

I think for the next album they should really go for a sound like The Sex Pistols and The Clash. They love them 2 bands, yet have never really had a similar sounding record. I'd like to hear some good old fashoined late 70's style punk.

It'll matter somewhat, but truth be told, I'm bored senseless by class being made a big deal of. I try not to think about it really. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

Nicky's socialist routes and working class sentiments are quite essential for where he is coming from, I'm worried he'll look a bit dated if he can't grow a bit with the times.

I know, I know, that was a bit of a strange answer!
But you know it's all about sticking to your principles.
However in essence Riverboy I'm getting what your saying.

After completing touring commitments for PFAYM and doing the summer festivals they should do a tour with nothing to promote, much the PPF tour. I'd like to see a 'No Singles' tour (has any band ever done such a thing?) to get the band listening to what made them great in the first place.

Hopefully that'll give them some ideas for the subsequent album.

I think if a group did a 'no singles' tour they would have to heavily promote it at that and give warning, nothing worse peforming to a baying crowd
