Took me 4 attempts and i'm still not happy with where i put GT GATS and Truth.

That said, I think that despite the rather flat, overproduced singles, PFAYM is a strong album that grows with every hearing. I know a lot of people hate it now, but all that means is that in six or seven years time we'll be calling it their overlooked classic and complaining they don't play enough stuff from it live.
very true, though we were complaining they weren't playing enough of it on it's own tour which is pretty bad

I agree, that just made it look like they had no confidence in it, which by all accounts isn't the case. There are lots of songs, particularly in the second half, which could become live favourites with a bit of nurturing and practice. (For some reason I envisage live performance as being a bit like growing tomatoes here)

They seem to imagine what reactions will be to songs instead of actually performing them to see!

I know I've been here before but which postcards are (most) of you lot listening to??? For me Postcards is the best album since Holy Bible....it's the album where they seem to have found a place of their own after Richey....the previous albums all have their incredible songs but for me it all comes together with this album with the personal like Some Kind of Nothingness which feels in a way like a song about suicide and yet also turns that around as a search for nothingness is maybe what all our questions will come to but there's beauty and peace to be had in nothingness which is of value in itself and is not a giving in.....and from the personal they've found the political with the likes of A Billion Balconies...& All We Make is entertainment...this virtual world of personal power...and then back to a reflective version - older n wiser of You Love Us in Postcards itself...I don't believe in absolutes anymore I'm quite prepared to admit I was wrong....kind of a looking back nostalgically but for all that's happened there's still the fight....I won't betray your confidence I will not give up and I will not give in....
It's a brilliant work....A perfect true Manic Street Preacher work....you're all tone deaf (bar Gutless Wonder fighting the good fight all through the thread)
And music wise I think they've got it just right - the mix of melody with just the right edge - not overblown or too full on as it's erm sometimes been previously....not as stark as the holy bible - my favourite - just right for these lyrics

Postcards is a brilliant album. Light, airy, kind of edgy, fun, relatively deep lyrically, yeah, I love it.

It's a fairly good 9th, way above SATT, not far below the rest which are all close together.

I wonder if Jeff Lynne has got round to listening to it yet. Would like to know what his thoughts are on it!

Postcards is a great album but if we're talking "Best since Holy Bible" we need to be talking EMG or arguably Journal - which is the one manics album with a decent cover art.

Yeah, to say it's the best since THB is pretty damning of the other albums, isn't it? EMG and JFPL clearly take that mantle.

No it's not damning
Everything... and Journal had the hand of Richey in them....Postcards feel like the band as they now are coming into their own and finding their own mark....not putting Richey behind just gaining the confidence in themselves. The other albums have never felt as sure, to me anyway
