Yes and no. To explain: Yes, the first time I listened to it, because it felt like it might do, I get what you mean I think. No, after the first listen because I think it's still a great track. Does that make sense?

I think it might be my favourite Futurology track I've heard so far, I adore both the lyrics and music.

Lyrics:

Black Square

Let us overcome our endless progress
Art is never modern for art is eternal
When every single day you're haunted by perfection
Paintings are never finished but merely abandoned

Resources, divorces with unknown forces
Endless endorsements slowly passing always
Resources, divorces with unknown forces
Endless endorsements slowly passing always

Let us wipe the slate clean, let us dig our own graves
Let us choose our own wars and make our mistakes
Free yourself from the tyranny of objects
Purged of all colour, the purest abstraction

Resources, divorces with unknown forces
Endless endorsements slowly passing always
Resources, divorces with unknown forces
Endless endorsements slowly passing always

Resources, divorces with unknown forces
Endless endorsements slowly passing always
Resources, divorces with unknown forces
Endless endorsements slowly passing always

I don't think it's akin to liferblood era b-sides as they were (mostly) shit.

Have to say I'm disappointed so far with the production on Futurology (the track), it comes across a bit flat, especially on the vocals but also on the transitions. Prefer the live version.

I haven't! I did go and listen to the title track on the iPlayer of Ken Bruce, but I closed the window about two lines into the first verse.
I may as well wait until next week. Besides, it's all about "Donker Mag" this week!

I know it sounds Corny but I'm getting goose bumps from this song!
It's not he lyrics as such rather the music and James' delivery of the words.
Such a happy Manics fan today

I do like the song a lot, don't want people thinking that I'm complaining. The middle section just threw me on the first listen as I was expecting a crescendo. After four listens now I'm really digging it.

On my 3rd listen I think its up their with the great Manics songs. So far, EGDM and Futurology are my faves. Seriously, listen to the title track with great quality headphones and you''ll hear some wonderful stuff lurking in it.
