I emailed Ticketmaster asking why they were allowing people to flog tickets on GetMeIn so soon after purchase for ten times the face value, as they are clearly touts who had no intention of ever going to the gig in the first place. Here's the shitey response.

Dear Will

When a popular event goes on sale there are literally hundreds and sometimes thousands of customers simultaneously attempting to purchase tickets across all distribution channels. Like any limited commodity, tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and sometimes they go quickly. If 500 fans are simultaneously buying four tickets each, 2,000 tickets can be sold in a matter of seconds. It's the same reason why a typical 18,000-seat arena can sell out in a few minutes. Also, in many cases, tickets are held by the promoter or venue therefore reducing the quantity of tickets available for purchase through Ticketmaster by the general public.

It is a fact that consumers are increasingly turning to ticket resale sites to sell and purchase tickets. We understand that not all of our customers want to purchase tickets from the secondary market and Ticketmaster will continue to provide a service to those who only wish to purchase tickets in the primary market.

However, we do feel it is important that we listen to the growing proportion of consumers who are using resale and exchange websites. We want to offer consumers increased choice and security in whatever way they chose to purchase a ticket. As a market leader in ticketing services, we are uniquely positioned to offer consumers a better, more secure solution. Our aim in acquiring GET ME IN! is to offer the same standards in security, reliability and service that currently exist in the primary market.

Apart from the legislation already in place prohibiting the unauthorised resale of football and Olympic Games tickets, there is no legal restriction on the resale of a ticket. The government, in its recent investigation into ticket touting, has recognised that legislation against the resale of tickets is not the right solution and it has urged the industry to find a “middle way” and move to regulate the market; which we are attempting to do by our acquisition of GET ME IN!

Ticketmaster acts as an agent on behalf of its promoter and venue clients. Therefore, we do not control the allocation of tickets and cannot divert the allocation of tickets to GET ME IN! on a unilateral basis. Tickets are posted on www.getmein.com by members of the public who sign up to the terms and conditions and provide a credit card to secure their listings and guarantee ticket delivery. Our promoter and venue clients will continue to determine the allocation of their primary market tickets and how their tickets are priced. The most important thing that we can do is to operate in the way that provides the best results for consumers and the entertainment industry.

Kind Regards

If it was Lady Gaga i might pay £50 but not how the Manics are these days.

I can emphathise with this. I'm a big fan but I rarely come on here (around an album's release or tour usually, that's about it).

But meh, whatever, hugely looking forward to this show anyway. I am very curious about the setlist, what with it being a one-off and them performing as a three-piece.

Do the people most likely to offer to do that even have tickets?!

Seriously though, nice to see the thread re-railed.

All I have to say is - the tickets came out two days before I got paid. When I would have enough to cover the ticket and a hotel.

Ah, you probably wouldn't have got one anyway. There were loads of us who were there at the off who didn't get tickets, I think they were all sold in the first few seconds. I kept refreshing for a few minutes, just in case someone screwed up and the tickets fell back into the pot, but it was hopeless.
