But the band put that (awful) version of Working Class Hero on the actual CD! Surely Richey's therefore allowed to include a better cover song in his mix...

That was a hidden song. Richard is in big trouble with the tracklisting police and he knows it.

Their version of WCH is fab!

God, 5 years. That's bizarre. I remember hearing Your Love Alone for the first time and being like WARGH because I'd never heard the Manics before but I really loved the Cardigans...

Surely it's the opposite of trolling though? Fairying prehaps?
Fairying - The continual posting of positive comments on an internet forum to the annoyance of other users.

Gutlesswondering - the perpetual defence of utter, utter shit recorded by a usually superb band, much to the delight and joy of fellow members as it lets them know that all is as it was, and indeed well, in the universe.

God, 5 yrs since Send Away The Tigers...
What I remember, I didn't really care a lot for neither YLAINE or Underdogs when those songs were released. But the album as a whole didn't take long to grow on me (the title track blew me away at first listen even), and this was once again a great time for being a non-UK resident Manics fan. Suddenly they had some European festival gigs lined up and I got to see them for the first time since the days of Lipstick Traces. It was only a 4 year wait but it seemed like nearly a decade had passed. At the time of SATT's release I was working at a gift shop, and my band wasn't really happening as we had a couple of members quit in quick succession. I had been in a relationship for about two years; since then we've married (I even got to see the Manics again on our honeymoon in L.A.), I've been promoted to shopkeeper and my band is recording again. So what about SATT now? It's a good album with some great tracks and some fillers/flaws. But compared to JFPL and PFAYM it doesn't really stand up that well. The ones that still feel like great Manics' tracks are: SATT, YLAINE, TSGD and to lesser extent Rendition and Imperial Bodybags. I'd say 7 out of 10 when all is said and done.

It was a fairly boring period for this fan. The album is fine, really. It's all happy and light, but really doesn't inspire and has no depth at all. However, I still might stick it on when driving on a nice summers day.
It was also the only time since i have been a fan, that i had no interest in going to see them. I did see them anyway, as they played The Electric Picnic that year. I didn't go just for them though. It was a forgettable gig anyway. |
