Agreed, that was my first thought too.

Lifeblood sounds like the sort of thing 30-somethings could reasonably mature into doing, SATT and PFAYM sound like the porche-and-affair-with-secretary by contrast.

No, you're overlaying your personal preference here. I agree those albums weren't the best (although in my opinion better than Lifeblood) but the band were definitely invigorated during those albums which wasn't the case during Lifeblood - hence their dislike for it. You can tell they weren't comfortable by the fact they we re wearing suits onstage for a start. Also, being "different" doesn't necessarily mean better quality.

They only like those albums better because they had better chart placings and sold a few more copies. If Lifeblood had sold the same as KYE they would love it.

Oh I see. Thank you for correcting my opinion, oh arbiter of subjective musical correctness.

For the record I really quite like SATT.

I think you missed my point. Thanks for the sarcasm though.

There were no patronising comments here. I was merely stating that Littlesue was using his/her musical preference to determine a musical low point for the band, whereas I was using the band's "morale" (for want of an infinitely better term) as a yardstick - one which I think the band would agree with btw. Just a difference of perspective. I think you need to get a little less defensive.

Well you were patronising me then, I was using the bands thoughts about the album too, they obsessed with chart placings and sales, if it had sold well they would have loved it!!

No defensiveness or apologies needed around here, everyone's friendly and slow to take offence.... right?

I like Lifeblood, but it's a flawed album with lyrics that even Saint Nick himself has said were far from his best. They don't like it because they were at their lowest ebb, losing (as Littlesue mentioned) the commercial success that they've always openly craved and, for a time, achieved. James' vocals actually sound strange on that album, to me it sounds like he's feeling seriously down.

Differences of opinion are expected. Telling people their opinions are invalid isn't.
