Im on holiday til tuesday, i should hopfully have a ticket through the door when i get home. Listening on dtreaming though and really enjoying it. Door To The River is a bizzare, melencholic, album that feels like more of a continuation of the back end of TIMTTMY, but without any real killer singles. Still listening to Solidarity....

I just cancelled my order. Granted I am an international buyer so it might be different, but with no email updates today I realised that I probably wouldn't get it for another two weeks.
Kontraband emailed me straight way(!) and were very apologetic. They said that stock on the signed inserts from the band were delayed but they had hoped to get everything out today. Issued me a full refund. I think I'll just wait for a discount on Amazon and get a t-shirt at some point from the website. Still listening and loving it though. Let Robeson Sing sounds glorious. Is it Nicky or Gruff Rhys singing with James? Didn't they want him to sing the vocal on the original mix? I remember reading that somewhere. |

Sorry. I don't know how that's gone wrong. Not got it to hand.

What’s the deal with His Last Elian then? Singing the lyrics to the music of another to see if it works?

Word is that something has been fucked up (I know) and Kontraband don’t have enough inserts to send out (I know)
Someone at that company clearly knows where the bodies are buried

Wow! Solidarity goes hard!!!! I kind of hate where they placed Freedom of speech though, dosnt really flow at all. And finishing of Miss Europa is sheer madness, but I kind of love it! Easily the best re issue yet.

It's only a few hours of listening to it, for now it's more curiosity than anything else. I feel epicentre has been neutered, the piano more upfront gives it a chaotic anxious feel. Same went for found that soul but dead martyrs is spectacular and the original was amazing but my favourite as of now.

After one listen of the albums while hideously busy at work may not be great indicator long term. Album 1 is just wonderful; I cant stand the last version of Door to the River, so this one is fab. Very indie and REM/Pixies inspired overall. Nice to hear a young ish James voice and it have the space in it as a band. So Why So Sad is just an irredeemable song in terms of improving the studio version. They polished that turd hard 20 years ago.
Album 2 got what I call Eringad at first listen. It feels a bit sludgy to listen to, nothing awful but feels like a case of comparing the production of Even in Exile and TUVL. Even in Exile feels expansive, TUVL feels unnecessarily compressed and held back. The track ordering doesnt feel as natural, but it may well improve over time once the added tracks are placed aside and the filler is removed. Seans drumming is ace overall but the original Masses is just better. Overall, this concept works better than the original; I just wish album 2 was given more space as it feels like there is more potential there. |

Aside from that awful So Why So Sad remix (don’t mind remixes but why change the chords etc) it’s exceeded all expectations and pleased beyond words they did this like it was originally intended. Wasn’t expecting the production sheen they gave it.

Just wanted to say that I spent an awful amount of time in my car listening to it. CD1 sounds phenomenal. And so does baby Elian. Can’t wait to listen to more and more of this. My favorite Manics album just got better.

I suppose James got the lyric for His Last Painting and this was one attempt to write music to it - just my assumption though
