stop with blind faith.
Why do people automatically assume 'blind faith' when someone likes a song that THEY don't like?! That would be like me accusing people of blind faith because they like KYE (the worst Manics album in my opinion). This is a decent pop song! And those are hard to come by these days. No, it's not amazing or incredible or anything even closer to the brilliance of JFPL - but it's not supposed to sound like JFPL, it's supposed to sound like a pop/rock record. And it does! That's not blind faith, that's being objective. It's 3 out of 5 stars at best, but that doesn't mean it's shit. A strong middle 8th and it would've been 4 out of 5 stars from me.

Seems to me people can't get past the fact that the Manics wrote it and look at it objectively. Would anyone here call it "amazing" if it were written by anyone else? Would they fuck
I understand your point that some people may just like it because they want to like it, but do you disect everything you like into tiny pieces and analyse every section before deciding your opinion on something, or have you just decided to be negative for the sake of it?

This kinda thing happens every time a new album comes out.

The manics have grown up, a lot of the fans haven't.

No. Nice means nice. 'Fucking mediocre' means fucking mediocre.

Stop with blind hate.

They're parts of the song. If people like them, they find it good. Simple.

Why would anyone want to look at it objectively? Liking it or not has to do with one's music taste, which is completely subjective. You're not being objective yourself when you dislike it or criticise its parts - it's all a matter of opinion.

If you want to be objective, you can state that it's a pop/rock song which has guitars, bass, drums and strings as well a male singer that goes on for three minutes and twenty-two seconds. Whether that combination is good, bad, mediocre, amazing or whatever it's fully subjective and opinions do differ between people.

And even if people do like it only because it's the Manics then, well, so what? If that's what makes their tastebuds roll then so be it. Hell, James is a highly distinguishable part of the Manics so it's very likely that if someone else sung it it would feel weaker, or stronger, to some people.

Precisely.

In short, there's nothing wrong with having positive opinions about the song. There's nothing wrong with having negative opinions about the song. I have no qualms with people disliking the song but please get off the high horse and let people think what they think without frothing all sorts of unnecessary bilge at them in some paranoid, zealotic rage because they think differently. I too think that "IT'S ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING THINGS I'VE HEARD!!!" reactions are rather daft but hey, those reactions aren't trying to justify that people's negative opinions are because of some paranoid delusion.

And I'm not even massive fan of the song so don't blame me for fanboyism.

In short, people have differing opinions. Chill the fuck out.

really? honestly i don't listen to much radio pop but i think that a lot of pop is better than this because this tries so hard and damn it's flat. at least YLAINE went somewhere. this just repeats its shitting rainbows way. imo kylie minogue's new single > this bombastic try hard abomination.

I'm not being negative for the sake of it. I'm extremely disappointed that a band who could be so much better are wasting themselves yet again. And I'm genuinely taken aback that people are really loving this. No one has given a good reason for it being 'amazing'. Anyone who has taken issue with what I said has still only considered it good and far from amazing.

Fair enough, we have different opinions, tastes, views. Yes i been too aggressive with my views.

But what you have to understand is that i wanted the best for the manics, i wanted this single to be better then 3 out of 5. It just annoys me, i see mediocre everywhere in music today and to get it from one of my favorite bands, pains me, it fucking hurts.

I don't think it's BAD, it's just not great. It is growing a bit after multiple listens.

You think this is mediocre?

Jesus, you want the moon on a stick! This song smacks of effort, musicianship and someone who really cares about their output.

Maybe they just can't match your inflated expectations?

I have listened to it about 8-9 times now. I love the intro, and the guitar melody (almost reminds me a bit of Doves' "Greatest Denier"), and the chorus is growing on me. The solo is disappointing to my ears though. It sounds great on the radio though (some songs do for some reason) and I would imagine that with this being the lead single that the rest of the album might be a little more less 'pop'. 7.5/10 for me.

Now that's an opinion I can understand. Where we differ is that I don't consider good to mean mediocre, at least not in this instance. It's an enjoyable tune for me. I like good pop songs and I think this qualifies. That being said I am hoping for something more interesting from the album.

My frustration with the negative reactions is that people are calling the song an abomination and shite and other such things. That's just as bad as calling it amazing or the best thing ever. Neither side is looking at it objectively. I've always been critical of the Manics when I think they deserve it and my only criticism here is that "(It's Not War) Just The End Of Love" desperately needs an interesting middle 8th to make it 'very good' as opposed to 'good'.

I'm pretty disappointed with it. It just sounded like an average pop-rock (ish) song. I was waiting for the chorus to start and then when it did, i just kind of felt disappointed. I think the melody sounds kind of awkward in a way i can't describe. I can't find anything catchy about it, and i think it really needed a big (and catchy) chorus to lift it.

The strings sound good, as does James' voice, but that's not enough to make it a good song. Maybe it'll grow on me, but based on my first listen this morning, i'm pretty underwhelmed.

They really need to keep Nicky away from the microphone.

Oh for godsake, why is it so important for people to justify why they like the song? It's one thing to have a personal objection to the sound and another entirely to berate others for enjoying it. Like most art, music is subjective and thankfully, not everyone has the same taste. Maybe those who love the tune do so because it's a Manics tune or maybe they just like the sound. Either way, why give a shit?
