As well ax the HMV blue vinyl, Amazon also has an import EMG20 vinyl down for a week earlier on June 10.

Any update/ response from Sony about the DVD?
Has anyone else noticed It's in 4:3 ratio and not widescreen- 16:9? I was watching a Smokey Robinson DVD recently, with, performances from way back that had better sound, video and mastering. No excuses I'm afraid!! Sack the work experience kids please Sony...

The music videos and gig? Not much helping that, very much the standard of its day...

It's so weird that the cds are held in place by those foam studs, two of them had already come loose when I opened the box for the first time (and one of them left a small sticky patch on one of the cds!) & there's no way something like that would not come loose eventually? It's such a cheap detail for a £50 boxset. Oh well.

This footage was from the 70's and had been remastered better.
They also did it with the X Files first seasons for the box set, took from 4:9 to 16:9 ratio. It just seems like cutting corners and whilst it may have been the standard back then, this is a supposedly a remastered collection.

In the case of your DVD from the 70s, it might have been shot on film, and/or higher quality camera gear. A lot of bad video was shot in the 80s and early 90s because video tape was so comparatively cheap it meant the difference between things being possible in the first place or not. But they can't add quality and resolution now if they never had it in the first place, however much anyone wants them to. So it isn't necessarily a matter of being lazy or cutting corners (now), it might just be literally impossible. So then the only option remaining would be to include it or not. If it was originally PAL and they transcoded it to NTSC that wouldn't help matters either of course. It might be the NTSC video was transcoded for the PAL VHS though.

Such a shame. I would have expected the source footage to be of adequate quality to remaster in HD and 16:9. Even Metropolis in 1927 was shot in 1:33:1, and, granted it is in Black and White looks to be of better quality- okay, the budget was a little higher then but I can't understand a company like Sony sending out a few guys with camcorders to capture this footage. I guess It's like the CD mastering of the 90's. Terrible.

Even though it all seems a massive rip off I can't help but be tempted by it. What's the running time of 'freed from memories' guys?

Around the 70s it became possible to use tape as long as you were indoors. You can see this effect on old BBC sitcoms like Dads Army; as soon as they step outside its in film!

Reading all these posts about various MSP boxsets..I'm sure I'll never buy any of them. They simply don't know how to do things right

EMG10 and THB10 were awesome. Then they started to think everyone wanted oversize boxes, with vinyl, where the sum of the parts doesn't had up to the cost of the set.

I think the one where they took the piss was the £100+ Postcards From A Young Man (yes) box. After that it's been a bit more reasonable
