It's a great album that bristles and burns with great ideas big and small. Both RTF and Futurology have been 2 of the best albums the band have done in years. Both have music that really hits home how much they make you feel when switching on your stereo, it's like various decades of sampling, copying and reinventing just howl from the same speakers I've had since I was 18. I like sheen, shiny, etc but I would love a full on rock album from them again. It doesn't need to be angry, nasty or holy bible esque. However, this band do what they do and that's alright by me.

Isn't it fun to randomly judge strangers life's online with no context to speak of?

Let's stick to the music shall we, and not cheapen this thread with ridiculous personal attacks.

I love lettuce. Can't stand mushrooms though, always hated them. Now, olives I used to despise, yet in the last couple of years I've developed a real taste for them. Go figure.

I've delved into it many times since I was sixteen and came up empty handed. Always a punk at heart.

That's a really idiotic comment but you've been an antagonistic keyboard warrior since you joined. Don't get personal, don't generalise and don't cheapen the vibe this forum has. There are many great people on here who know to have banter without retreating to personal judgement. As JDB says, "you silly little fucker".

Unlike you who's decided to make a groundless personal comment on a stranger based on their musical opinion shared on a band forum? Yeah, you seem like one of life's winners right now...

Nothing groundbreaking at all, i'm not saying they shouldn't have made the record but they definitely were talking alot of bollocks when pre-promoting it.

It's not changed my opinion on anything in the band's past, well only that the album lineup has shifted to let Futurology in around the GATS mark. They're still a fucking brilliant band and I absolutely expect they will do another great album one day. RTF proved they still have it in them, but maybe there weren't enough great ideas for two albums worth.
It could have been quite interesting as a double album. Sequencing can often change the entire context of a song/songs. As it stands, yeah it's just not at all what they think it is. Which is probably good and bad in many ways. And typically Manics.

The fact that band can still illicit some reaction from me is obviously a good thing. And the fact they keep shifting styles to do whatever the want to do 12 albums into their career is to be admired and respected. I'm just not with them on this one.

I though the same. Almost a two part concept thingy. The two lead into one another surprisingly, especially 30 year war into Futurology

Actually, I think that's what makes Manics fans an interesting bunch. We don't "mollycoddle" each other or the band, no kid gloves involved here. Because we - like the band - actually have opinions, and isn't that one reason why we got interested in the Manics in the first place? If we were scared of a little bit of controversy, we might as well listen to... I don't know... Keane, or something.

Perhaps. I said that it's made me change my opinion of the band's lyrics. I never mentioned the music.

But this what happens with art. Whenever an artist releases something new/adds something new to their canon it should, I feel, make the listener/reader/viewer not only question their relationship to the work in question, and where that work stands in relation to the rest of their oeuvre. It should make the recipient question their entire relationship to the artist as a whole.

What's worse, an adverse reaction to a new album which makes you think about how you feel about the rest of their work, or a substantial lack of reaction to an album which doesn't make you question anything (like Rewind the Film, which was so beige to me that I was neither here nor there about its existence)?

I'd rather kick and scream and hate than shrug and walk off.

Sex, Power, Love and Money

It sounds like an album made for the deaf
It's weird, it's pointless, it really never riffs
No rock, no bible, no point, no more
Just four small changes that will not be in their minds

Self-created for mass communication
Self-esteem is 5 stars in Q
I guess they've written on the back of a bus
Set music to words as they strain from bible love

No direction, no clever writing, a confession, another shot at mass communication

Prog, Punk, Disco and Money
Prof, Punk, Disco and Money

Upload your reviews and download our past
Lifeblood for the weak, for they will be cursed
We could've been heroes, but failure bounds more fun
Predictive and passionless, it's now self-indulged

It sounds like an album for the deaf
It's shiny, it's sheeny, not a bit PCP
No riffs, more pop, no richey, no more!
Just four small words that will not

Sex, Power, Love and Money
