Be interesting to see how many versions they can put out of KYE reissue then! Suppose it depends on how much stuff they put out, the album, then b-sides, live stuff from the period, demos. Hope for a DVD but they've not included one since SATT reissue.

I had to laugh out loud at this line from the interview:

“There are actually a lot of goodies. Even I’m quite giddy with excitement. James and Sean [Moore, drummer] weren’t arsed though…”

I have no issue with a bit of revisionism with the b-sides fitted into the two albums. Or even Masses on the Solidarity album.

I absolutely loved the idea of the “two albums”. It’s not that big of a deal if they do it like that. Switching one track, a small change like that, is a BIGGER deal to me than just releasing something in a different way, splitting it etc - if anything it makes it worth the reissue and much more interesting to hear.

I think I said I thought they should leave it alone*, but I’m happier if they (well, Nicky anyway!) go the whole hog and do the two-album thing with multiple changes so it’s a properly different thing, rather than just swapping out one track like they’ve done before.

*If the band reserve the right to contradict themselves, then so do I

Played the new album a few times this morning. It's nice enough but will need a lot more plays to get into it. I'm more excited for this KYE box set reissue now haha!

I really hope they do the 2 albums - it feels much more exciting to have a new reissue this way, especially as its a mess of an album to begin with! Do a real proper, new mix of stuff too.

I'd pull FD/LT stuff in there too and even the remixs. God, the Ocean spray remix is the most beautiful, poignant piece of music in their whole catalogue!

In no particular order (Soul would be such a scuzzy punk affair!)

Pedestal
Masses
We Are All Bougeouis Now (not as a hidden track!)
Ballad of the Bangkok Novotel
Locust Valley
Groundhog Days
Found That Soul
Intravenous Agnostic
Dead Martyrs
My Guernica
Wattsville Blues
The Convalescent

Ocean Spray
Ocean Spray Kinobe remix
So Why So Sad
So Why So Sad Avalanches mix
Let Robeson Sing
Year of purification
Miss Europa Disco Dancer
Royal Correspondent (acoustic like Reading/Leeds festival version)
Baby Elian
Freedom of speech
There By the grace of god

“There’s some good stuff with [2004 album] ‘Lifeblood’, because the [producer] Tony Visconti versions have never been released. There are about three or four of them. I think that’s about it.”

Oh yes please, plus the demo's, Nicky, the demo's!!!! Please have a look in the loft asap. The BBC can provide the sublime Maida Vale session too - a triple disker on the cards if ever there was one.

I think I'd prefer them to leave it alone but I agree that this is better - "this is the idea we originally had" is a better reason to release an alternate version than "we've fiddled with it because one of the tracks now embarrasses us".

Can they not do something like:

CD1: The original, remastered album
CD2: The reimagined rock album
CD3: The reimagined acoustic album
CD4: Demos, B-sides, etc

Realistically in 2021/22 whatever format they provide the tracks in won't prevent us from reconstructing the album as it was with remastered tracks.

Or, y'know, excising a few

But then (might have been last Christmas) Director Kieran Evans tweeted he had a bundle of 2001 era video cassettes dumped on his studio floor.
Some might end up on YouTube like the still excellent Pieces of Sleep.
Or we could have a DVD in the box?
I'd like maybe a trilogy of YouTube VHS edited films for all the footage they have which could be made into those films.

It'll all be over (the uncertainty of contents) by Christmas!

Anybody interested in trying to make a track listing of the two albums?

Here is my late Saturday night attempt.

My rules were any songs and b-sides, but not Forever Delayed or Masses (I doubt they will put Masses on any revised track listing; and I've never read anything about Forever Delayed being already written during this era).

This was tough because there are not that many acoustic-y or softer tracks for the Door to the River album. You could argue for Ocean Spray and a few others going on the Solidarity album.

I stuck to 11 songs per album just because. So there are some songs missing but choices had to be made. A little bit of thought went into the track listing - mainly top loaded with the singles but still trying to keep songs where they came in the original album. All good fun.

Solidarity

Found That Soul
Freedom of Speech
Intravenous Agnostic
Just a Kid
Epicentre
Pedestal
His Last Painting
Locust Valley
My Guernica
Groundhog Days
We are all Bourgeois Now

Door to the River

Door to the River
So Why So Sad (Avalanches)
Ocean Spray
Let Robeson Sing
The Year of Purification
Wattsville Blues
Miss Europa Disco Dancer
The Convalescent
Royal Correspondent
Baby Elian
Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?
