'Midnight Sun' - would you include it on 'KYE'?

Few Manics albums split opinion like 'KYE', and most people (I'm not one of them) think it should be a lot shorter with several b-sides to be swapped for album tracks. Now we have 'Midnight Sun' to throw into the mix. So...who would include 'Midnight Sun' on their ideal 'KYE' track-listing?

Personally I don't think the production would fit on the album and I wonder if it should be considered more a part of the largely Greg Havers-produced 2002 tracks. What do you all think?

I haven't heard it yet. The single isn't out until Monday. And everyone on here knows my poor opinion of KYE by now.

I'm one of those weirdos who wouldn't change a song on KYE as it is, so by default no. But in general, it's probably the weakest track of the era including the original KYE b-sides so eh, probs not even if I was forced to edit the tracklist.

If you pre-ordered the single through the web site you got it today, which is why I'm asking now. And it doesn't really sound like 'KYE' to be honest.

This obviously wasn't written for KYE, just like the rest of these new tracks were done after the PFAYM sessions.

Know Your Enemy doesn't have a "sound". If it wasn't good enough back then for KYE, and it's not good enough now for PFAYM then it mustn't be that great.

Production-wise 'KYE' definately has a sound, which is why people always complain about how rough the production is. That was what I was referring to, not the style of track (which, as you say, is far from uniform).

It sounds like a sketch of a song to me. A demo, instead of a finished version. Which is probably why it got lost in the archives instead of being released. There's an element of greatness to it but it sounds like it needs more work.

No, because Midnight Sun was recorded in 2001 so it falls more in line with the KYE era. Yes, it would fit on KYE as that album is a combination of multiple styles of music anyway.

Ok, but *would* you include it on your ideal KYE track-list? Do you think it's good enough?

I think it would fit nicely between His Last Painting and My Guernica

I think the solo is the least interesting thing about to be honest.

Aye, but KYE wasn't recorded in 2001. We led ourselves up the garden path for a change instead of being dragged there by Nicky.
