Quote:
When I see a lot of bands' lyric sheets, before I hear the record I know what they're going to sound like - cause the metre in the text is like "da da da, da da da, da da da". I think when I see my lyrics written down, even though I know what the song's gonna be like, I can't really imagine how James could possibly sing the words.

I was off sixth form with glandular fever when I first got the Holy Bible in 94 so got plenty of time to get tuned into the album. First listen had me so confused though. Great album, great lyrics but just so much information within each song. I'm glad I had the time to really work out the songs as they meant, and still mean so much. I really doubt anyone could have "got" the whole album on first listen though.

'Twas ok. Bit of a grower. Got me mam singing "I'm Stronger Than Pinter" Xmas dinner will never be the same...

At first I focused in on the melodies because I didn't have a lyric sheet on me at the time (and trust me even now that I know the lyrics by heart I still sometimes find moments where I can't tell what James is singing) but once I finally sat down to read the lyrics of Yes it was a real eye opener. Naturally I had to take a good while to really process all I had listened to once I finished listening to the album and even longer to dare listening to it all the way through once again. But now it is by far my favorite album.
