Very true. It seems to be that they couldn't really embrace their Welshness until Ritchie left (I don't mean that to sound as horrible as it does - hounest!) But Ritchie was often very disparaging towards Wales in interviews, I seem to remember an interview where he referred to Welsh as a dead language and wished people would get over it and in another he essentially said Wales was the same thing as England (I think Wire took him up on that point after.)

I've always thought it wasn't him per se, but that they evolved into different people once he left. But then I think if he was still here he'd have made the evolution with them.

r.e the welsh thing - Manics are Welsh. Hence they're nominated. End of. ...Y Niwl should win though. |

Agree. They only embraced their Welsh roots in 96 once Catatonia, Stereophonics and the Super Furry Animals started getting press attention/record sales.

Shame really, if this award was around in 2009 when JFPL was released they'd have it in the bag. Now, no. Just no. Crossing my fingers for Joy Formidable.

I think it's tonight they announce it, quite where I don't know, but presumably somewhere in Cardiff to tie in with SWN.

Disappointed for the Manics and The Joy Formidable. I like Gruff and everything but can't get excited about him winning it I'm afraid!
