My siblings believe I've got a crush on them 'cos since I was sixteen I've been looking forward to see them live. It happens to me constantly that I listen to them until exhaustion and during the next months I don't wanna know anything related to them. Sometimes even my brother, sister, nephew ,cousins, etc have mistaken them for another bands like Greenday, Nirvana, U2,and that shit, so they drive me up the wall and then i don't wanna listen to them anymore. But In the other hand when they think the Manics are the likes of Suede, Stone Roses, etc I don't give a fuck (you know, they aren't after all awful bands).
My younger fellows (20 years old) think I'm in a indie mood since the single "Europa geht durch mich" was first placed on a local radio station, so they think they are in vogue for a while. |

My Husband Kev likes stuff like DFL, YLAINE, KC, Australia etc but doesn't like "the obscure stuff", that said he comes to average one gig per tour and always accompanies me when I interview Wire. My daughter Jude has been going to see the Manics since she was 4, (she's almost 12) however at the Brixton gig earlier this year she did play Candy Crush for nearly the whole gig and then declared "they are better on record than live". She does always learn all the songs and has learned the words off Futurology quicker than me.
My parents are pretty keen on them. |

My mum likes the Postcards/SATT era but doesn't understand the earlier material and thinks it's too grisly.

My dad likes certain popular songs of theirs (I daren't play him the heavy stuff
![]() ![]() My mum's opinion is "it's all been done before"... ![]() I sadly have no siblings to annoy with my music tastes... But my best friend, who I regard as my sister, loves their early stuff and hates everything from ADFL onwards, with the exception of Know Your Enemy, because "James was shouting again and there were actually guitars". ![]()

I wouldn't say my parents are fans at all, but they take a (sometimes forced!) interest and definitely have a lot of respect for a band who've always been very individualistic and tried to introduce people to all aspects of culture and society etc. I'd say both liked the more folky bits of TIMTMY and RTF and Dad the more punky stuff especially and rates James vocally and instrumentally anyway.
Whereas my brother is a big fan who I owe a debt of gratitude for getting me into the Manics in the first place, though it was listening to Forever Delayed that attracted him! Don't worry though, he queued to get second row at the NEC in 2004, spent the gig shouting for Sleepflower and bought a copy of Lifeblood in its first week so I guess that's not a bad record! 8-year-old son loves them, of course we can't listen to all songs. "Roses in the Hospital" is one of my favorites, but I sprint to the volume button before we hit the chorus. :-/

I think I brainwashed my mum into them and now she's as big a fan as I am. She's working on and is doing well with her record collection and 2 of the 3 times I've seen the Manics I've been with her.
My dad listens to music fairly casually with varied taste but hasn't shown much interest. As I had a load of their albums on his iTunes he decided to take them all off because they always kept coming up on shuffle on his iPod.

I don't think my parents have an opinion on them or care about their music really. My mum knows what James looks like and has been good at alerting me to various TV/radio/newspaper appearances in the past.
My eldest brother quite likes them (although not sure if he's bought any of their more recent albums) and it was because of him asking for FD for Christmas in 2002 that I ended up nicking it off him and becoming obsessed with them myself. He came to the Leeds gig on the last tour, which was the first time he'd seen them and he really enjoyed it. Not bad going getting acoustic Black Dog on your first Manics gig really! My other brother has no interest in them I don't think. Obviously my fiance (MSPKYE) is as big a fan as I am and I wouldn't have met him if it wasn't for this place. This band really do have a lot to answer for ![]() |

There is a 13 year gap between my and my youngest brother so he heard them a lot when growing up, I made sure they where his first proper gig (leeds this year) he likes the angst and pretty much plays the holy bible constantly, I may have created some kind of unhappy monster (he's an angry 20 year old overtly poltical class warrior)

My brother, who's 8 years older than me, was one of the EMG-era casual fans that suddenly discovered the band and was responsible for getting me into them. He went off the band by 2000 but I lent him Postcards recently and he really liked it. He's now a 40 year-old dad of 2 small girls, and the kids liked it too (particularly Auto-Intoxication, strangely, which I found quite funny). My parents are aware of the band and tolerated me playing them, but were never that bothered really.

Hello everyone, first time posting here but have been reading you from quite a few months before signing in
![]() My parents don't seem to care about the Manics, although I've heard my mother singing "tsunami, tsunami" a couple of times (pretty sure that I'm responsible for that). My sisters don't seem to "distinguish" their sound and sadly they tend to compare the band with Coldplay or Keane (they are so fucking wrong!). As for my friends, I wish that some of them listened to the Manics, but that seems to be a bit of a difficult task since I'm from Chile and they are barely known over here ![]() |
