Withdrawn Traces: searching for the truth about Richey Manic
Another book. This one due next March by Leon Noakes & Sara Hawys Roberts and with a foreword by Richey's sister Rachel.
The authors have been given access to letters, lyrics, diaries, police and medical reports as well as family and close friends Rather than rehashing the well known story the book considers his behaviour and actions in the months leading up to his disappearance and while of course no one knows conclusively what happened his behaviour demonstrates why it has proved so difficult to draw any probable conclusions easily It's being published by Virgin Books

Interesting, quite a surprise too. Unusual that they have Rachel - such a wonderful, dignified but also surely protective person - onside, and such a level of access. I'd certainly like to have a look at it when it's out.

Although I'd read this one too and I understand it's hard to resist all the mysterious enigma surounding Richey, don't you all think it's quite sad that he seems to be remembered more for his illness than for his great talents? Just a random thought, but sometimes it feels like "Richey the mental patient" is a more heard label than "Richey the great artist". Also the embarrassing 4real incident is amongst the first images that pop out when you do a Google search... As shocking as it was (still is), and as understandable as it is, I still find it unfair. The Manics themselves though, have been praising Richey's artistry pretty much, which makes me respect them even more.
At least, I hope these analyses about his behaviour and all that will help with providing help to further patients with his similar problems.

Looking forward to reading something authorized. A version of reason looked like a GCSE/A level project

On first read I was surprised at how decent that was. On second read: hang on, why the fuck is he 'retracing' Richey's February 1st car journey from London to Wales?! You're just driving the M4 you daft twat. So yes, something a little more personal would be good.

![]() People will always be fascinated by the darker side I guess. Does genius lead to despair or despair to genius though maybe in the end the wonder is that they could use their creative genius despite their illness until the illness becomes too much

This could be an interesting read. The last one I bought about Richey was A Version of Reason, when it came out in 2009. Wasn't that great but wasn't bad.

I find it hard to believe there's much that hasn't already been out there at this point.

Now been put back to the 1st of February 2018. Can't think why that date. Though quite possible it'll be the 1st of Never.
