Love love love Zeitgeist, as I'm sure I probably stated years ago in this thread...
When I went to the Rough Trade launch for Nicky's Polaroid book in 2011, most of the people there bought copies of Zeitgeist to get signed, so I do think he knows how well liked it is... I think he even tweeted about doing a one off Zeitgeist show at the time? Obviously nothing materialised but I'd be so up for that, considering I missed out first time round. |

Gotta admit I did have low expectations for I Killed The Zeitgeist so it wouldn't have taken much to beat em... eh, as far as I knew at the time, Wire hadn't made any musical contribution to the band and he's a crap singer. Actually really like the album.
Wonder if Nicky had made much musical contributions to the band before then. They've spoken a bit about his songs since..

I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it is a very good album. It's an album which wears its heart on its sleeve and I like how fragile and fallible sounding it is.
Sure Wire isn't the greatest singer, but then his voice fits certain songs well (eg: in this case Break My Heart Slowly or the Manics', William's Last Words).

I like both the solo efforts, but would have to say The Great Western shades it for me. I really like the artwork and That's No Way to Tell a Lie, English Gentleman, Bad Boys and Painkillers, Still a Long Way to Go, Émigré, To See a Friend in Tears, The Wrong Beginning and Which Way to Kyffin is a verey good spine of an album. I'm not so keen on the other three songs on there though and think they should have been replaced by some of the B Sides (Days Slip Away and Never Wanted Sunshine especially).

Actually, all TGW b-sides.

Of topic again, but when you also add Lost Again and Don't Look Back, the B Sides were of a pretty high standard.

Listening to Stab Yr Heart and a few other tracks off IKTZ again now and I'm always reminded of the same thing: imagine what an astounding Manics album a mixture of IKTZ and TGW would have made...
