Dan and Mick mentioned it on a live Q&A a few days ago. Mick said they are hoping to post it on the 14th. They said James was a sweetheart and they talked about the tones on some of the manics most famous songs. It’ll be great

Think this Guardian Review has been missed:

Yeah saw that guardian review. Bit crap really. Liked the Quietus one (even if they referred our Sean as Shaun Moore (doh!)

I’m thinking an official documentary linked to a new, all encompassing Greatest Hits compilation (justified on the grounds they’ve made five albums since National Treasures), and a big world tour to support it.

If we get another compilation, I really hope it's one more along the lines of Suede's Best Of and Blur's Midlife. We've already had a 'best known tracks' set and a comprehensive singles collection, I'd really love a band-selected compilation of what they believe are the best and defining moments - not the ones they think the audience expect to hear live or anything, but the ones they're proudest of. I think that would be intriguing in its own right. Although the concept would end up being spoiled by the inclusion of a half-arsed new track at the end or something.

Double them up?

Night 1 - Early singles & GT
Night 2 - GATS & THB
Night 3 - EMG & TIMT
Night 4 - KYE on its own, as the two album split
Night 5 - L & SATT
Night 6 - JFPL & PFAYM
Night 7 - RTF & F
Night 8 - RIF & TUVL
Night 9 - CT & an assortment of B-sides from across the years

If they did announce something like this I would explode with excitement but also be filled with angst, as it’s the kind of thing I can only imagine them doing as a final goodbye before splitting up forever.

Yeah, this is a good shout. I really hope they wouldn’t just flog all the early singles again, plus the likes of AFALC etc from the last 5 albums, if they were planning anything retrospective.

Edit: I believe Sparks did this about 15/20 years ago with a similar number of albums under their belt so it can be done.
I actually can't believe Sparks went through with that, 21 albums live.

It would be a dream to see Manics do it, but they hate so many of their own songs (and have admitted they also don't like rehearsing) so I can't see them doing it for any reason. Members of that era of Sparks emphasised what a task it was to learn so many songs (with their work ethic too ).

If they did, I'll happily eat my words and take out a small loan for the occasion.

I love the idea of this but for the above reason the tracklist would still be ridiculous!

I'd love a red and blue compilation like The Beatles. Only trouble is, how you'd split it. What the cutoff years would be. They've lasted longer than Led Zeppelin and they had their shares of compilations over two CDS.
Only problem with compilations is if the band isn't finished it's what they do next after.
Also, what if it isn't a documentary but a big Richey biopic?
I've just woke up. It's Sunday and I know I know nothing but it's my nothing!
Don't get your hopes up but speculate away.

So where is the best place to get the vinyl? I fancy a red one or a different colour one. And with the original artwork. Rough Trade? Anywhere else other people have ordered it from? Bonus point for any of their other vinyl albums on offer as I might splash out.

Intriguing thought... would they definitely pair up the albums in chronological order - might they be more inclined to split it so there's one popular and one not so popular album each night? Or at least pair albums by what works best thematically/musically?

If you’re going to go red, I would recommend Norman Records. Always had great service from them, although there are a ton of fantastic records stores out there (google UK indie record stores). HMV have the clear vinyl exclusive.

Could just about manage chronological with that, too:

GT + early tracks
GATS + SATT (punchy ten track albums, contentious)
THB + JFPL (Richey angst)
EMG + PFAYM (string-laden pop)
TIMT + RTF (mellow, acoustic)
KYE + F (experimentation)
RIF + L (polished)
TUVL + CT (recent?)
