Album 16

https://www.nme.com/news/music/manic...future-3838170

Quote:
Somewhere between the fury and introspection of those records, Wire admitted they found inspiration for ‘Critical Thinking’ (“It’s like a hybrid of both of those – perhaps it had more of an influence than I realised”) with the sonic departure of ‘Lifeblood’ and 2014’s Berlin and kraut-rock-inspired ‘Futurology’ sparking ambitions for their next LP.
...

“We were talking the other day and the only thing we’ve got on our heads is that we’d like to go abroad and record. We’d love to keep it cold and European. I’m not saying that’s going to make it ‘Futurology’ part two, but that’s what’s in our head. We haven’t even released this record yet, so the mere fact that we’re talking about what we could do next is quite a nice sign.”

Wire pondered some of his bandmate’s suggestions of new producers recording their next album in Hamburg, adding: “James has this random nature of explosions of ideas which need to be harnessed really quickly or they’ll just go.

“‘Futurology’ is one of the best Manics albums and it has stood the best of time. For me, ‘Lifeblood’ and ‘Futurology’ fit together in terms of the sheen. I could definitely see us following the muse on that level.

“I haven’t written many words for a while because it’s good to take a break from the album you’ve just done and not repeat yourself. This one is meant for the dark night of the soul and I’m sure the next one will be different from that. Whether it’s broader, whether it’s more macro in outlook. We’ll see.”

Wire added: “There’s always a song to be written. A lot of it is just down to willpower now and seizing that moment of inspiration. When you get that moment, you have to work quick or it disappears.”

I'm hopeful, sounds like the direction I suggested they take only a couple of weeks ago. Change is good, go for it.

Second this and I feel we’re being greedy mentioning it on the day of a new release but yeah, this sounds exciting. Hurry up please lads, I don’t like these 3-4 year waits.

They'll book a really expensive studio in Japan offering the most unreal landscape of new and old they've ever saw out of a recording studio window.
And Sean will still be "Yeah, I want to record my drums separately in Rockfield"

If we're talking back to cold and European, I'd be up for seeing more Lifeblood vibes 100%. CT has the chord shapes but it's a lot warmer in other ways.

I'd also be intrigued if they could take the sad heaviness of The Cure and merge that into their own Manics universe, almost like some of their own instrumentals at times. Sortof a mashup of Lifeblood, a pinch of PSB (Turn no More) and combine the two would be interesting to see. The Cure does Lifeblood would be a pretty mega idea come to think of it....

Either way I think they distanced themselves from the Lifeblood direction way too quickly given its qualities; so that could be a great direction for them to go back to and fully realise next.

It looks like they want to do a location album next. James talked about Japan and Wire said in a separate interview that they have to grasp hold of James’ ideas when they come as they come fast and then dissipate. I hope they do a Japan album soon. No more reissues please.

Had to laugh when I saw the thread title so soon.

But

This does have me excited. There are lots of nice sounds on CT, but I'm just not feeling the songs. Amping up the sheen, writing some colder songs to specifically suit it, and recording it somewhere outside their comfort zone is a promising idea, coupled with, y'know, actually having an idea and enthusiasm for an album rather than just recording for the sake of it.

TGW20 then that Japan album.

There is only one album's worth of demos left to unlock :-( (well apart from I Killed the Zeitgeist)

Which is The Holy Bible, isn't it?
In both reissues (10th and 20th) there are just a few demos and not all of them like in the other 14 albums so far.
