No that's no good!
Ah, just do that huge 4 or 5 CD box set.
But again, it's what they might do afterwards that'll make the set obsolete before it's released.

Want National Treasurers the greatest hits part two? Or does it get classified as a singles collection instead for the sake pedantry?

Didn't Keiran Evans say something about a documentary during the Q and A session he did with Nicky last year? I reckon that will be part of the 40 year thing, along with an "Ultimate Collection" type mega release and some big gigs to keep the pennines coming in while they work on album 16.

Question are greatest hits or single collections still a thing in 2025 (shudder)? I never bought National Treasures and wouldn't see myself anything like it when I have all the albums and 10th/20th anniversary editions.

Probably not. Nothing really exists anymore. It will probably be some big Spotify download playlist used as a loss leader for publicity to sell tickets for the gigs.

I'd like to think there's still a place for the "Greatest Hits" compilation. It's a great door in to some artists catalogue.

Could be a box set, maybe of all singles on CD and/or vinyl.

Would agree with this, I still start with best of or greatest hits compilations for some artists before diving into studio albums, if they have a ton of albums anyway.

I'd be hesitant to recommend THB as a starting point to a Manics newcomer.

I agree. I put 'The Holy Bible' off for a while.

When I got into the Manics in 2007, I was only really aware of 'Motorcycle Emptiness', 'A Design For Life', 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next', 'Australia' and 'The Love of Richard Nixon'

It was actually 'Generation Terrorists' that I bought first, then 'Everything Must Go' with an insane amount of listening that got me obsessed.

The "Greatest Hits" that did if for me were The Jam 'Snap', The Clash 'The Singles' and The Stone Roses 'The Very Best of The Stone Roses'.

I always like the idea of a Greatest Hits being about 70% actual hits and 30% fan favourite/curio etc.

They haven't had many 'hits' since National Treasures.

I think they'd be better off doing something based off of what Depeche Mode did with by year available as either single disc albums or a triple album eg.

MSP Singles 92 - 2002
MSP Singles 2002 - 2014
MSP Singles 2014 - 2025

MSP Singles Collected (Triple Disc)
MSP Singles Compendium (8 Disc - 3 discs of singles and 4 B-Sides discs)

In a market of cheap knocked out compilations. They'd probably do something more curated.
I mean the ultimate is going right the way back to earliest demos and recordings to this year.
You'd have to say that pre-Columbia, pre-Heavenly stretch. If anything like that exists of course!
That'd be such a listen, even if was only the hits and not the deep cuts.
Well I'd come away from that thinking "Fucking hell the Manic Street Preachers are amazing!".

I'd like I Live Through These Moments on a physical disc if career boxset planned. Thanks.
Edit: Jools Holland etc would get royalties on future compilations if Decline&Fall included!
