Journal For Plague Lovers is the best album of the decade!
It is!!!
For me, Manics finally released the album which can be compared to the ones they made in 90s, the other great albums of this decade are: Hail To The Thief - Radiohead Lifeblood Shadows Collide The People - John Frusciante Here Come The Tears - The Tears

I've voted yes but as said many times before I love Lifeblood and KYE very much too!

JFPL is brilliant. One of the best albums of the year. I don't know if it would make my top ten of the decade though. It would make my top 20

I would agree that it certainly is ONE of the best albums of the decade for me!

It would definitely make my top ten.
In all fairness though, this decade has been generally horrendous music-wise. Is it the depressing stale-mate of post-modernism, the death cries of the era of late-capitalism, mass producing a full-stop to the greatest simulacrum of them all - the pop-song?

It would put it is easily one of the best this decade (millenium too I suppose). It's not technically or artistically the best, but certainly gives me the most pleasure. Art is all about personal opinions anyway. It is up there with Kid A and Lost Riots for me.

I'm not sure what I'd call the best album of the decade, but I can think of at least one († by Justice) that is vastly better than JFPL.
Sorry, Manics. ![]() |

Aye, I think it has definite top twenty potential but in all but one categories which I judge music (songs, lyrics, sonics, innovation and danceability) there are better.
However it does offer more completeness than almost all albums this decade, possibly only Turn Out The Bright Lights sounds like a more perfectly cohesive statement. The songs are just meant to be together, hence the live shows I guess.

It's one of the best albums of the decade, but not the best.

Pitty Interpol don't feel the same about it. All they have done since is try to get away from the beautiful sound they had on that album

Contrary bastards gon' get a bitch slapping one of these days. Mind you, I am a Manics fan, Interpol's contrariness is mere drips compared to the awesome tsunamis of the Manics' contrariness.

Easily in my top 10, but certainly not the best album of the decade, IMO. However, I do think it's slowly inching up there as the best album of the decade by the Manics. It's almost at the point of eclipsing LB for me, but only just. By the time their next album comes out, I should know better as to where JFPL stands in terms of my favourite albums by them this decade.
I will say however that THB is probably tied with The Bends and OK Computer as my favourite album of the '90s...in fact, it's probably in my top 5 of all time. Last edited by Bryter Layter; 03-11-2009 at 02:10. |

I disagree with it being the album of the decade (but it is 10/10 stuff) but I had to say YES for the shoutout to Shadows Collide With People, awesome piece of work.
