Auschwitz
Anyone visited and subsequently listened to Intense Humming Of Evil or Mausoleum?

It may seem strange, but those songs were the last thing on my mind at the time.

Weird as it may seem I had those two and some of Bowie's Low in my head. Ah well, I did try and drown myself in a swimming pool. Weird weekend. You visit the 'cinema' before going into the camp itself?

A buddy of mine said he listened to them on the bus as he was going in to the place a few months back. Had to be done I guess.

Yeah, I did the same. Can't really get much darker can you? Krakow is one of the nicest cities I have ever been too, and I have been around the bloc, with a Kafka collection.

I've been there, in high school, so I had no idea about the Manics' existence. I don't remember what I've been listening, it's quite possible it's been U2 or My Chemical Romance, my bad.
Auschwitz, in a lack of a better word, is inspiring. at least for me, and I'm not the average person, I mean, I'm strange. I've found it incredible place, I mean obviously the camp, especially Birkenau, Auschwitz itself is now more like a museum, like there are lots of photographs, documents and theme exhibitions etc. Birkenau is quite scary, there are few buildings rebuilt (the wooden barracks were destroyed when the Soviets came in) and you can see how many people were put there. when Auschwitz camp is more near the town Oświęcim (Polish for Auschwitz, then Birkenau-Brzezinka is like fully built on the field, near small forrest. but with no neighbourhood. like I said, the place is kinda inspiring and fascinating - not in a positive way of course, please understand me well, I am aware what happened there. how many people died etc. but when you go there, there's a very incredible atmosphere. it's hard to describe, really.

In Israel, we have a more popular equivalent of a holocaust album, "Ashes and Dust" by Yehuda Poliker. If you're Israeli, and you go from school, most chances are you've listened to it. And much as I appreciate Richey's sensitivity, I rather listen to something closer to the holocaust.

it was a good trip, if the word 'good' is okay here. I learned a lot that time. have you seen the film before going to the camp? from the 'liberation' of the camp by Soviets? it was filmed a couple of days after Soviets came in and all prisoners had to pretend/act. the camp was rather empty, excluding people who weren't able to walk/were too weak/too ill etc. as Germans were aware what Soviet soldiers can do so they simply ran away. history, the biggest bitch in the world. you learn it the way how the winners say. what a bullshit.

Isn't it on the internet, by any chance? I'm not sure we get the same programs on demand as you do... But I'll make a note.
