Who's being self-righteous? I was just showing the guy some existing threads and suggesting that the search function is genuinely helpful for more obscure topics like this one. For once I was actually trying to be helpful!

The magic of this sentence is it can be read in multiple ways, thanks to the comma.

Try reading it in a patronizing voice and you get a condescending tone. The pause for the comma real helps to bring out the sarcasm in your voice.

Alternatively, try reading it in a helpful tone and you get someone who is doing their best to suggest future improvements. In this case, the comma is a delicate pause, in which the reader/listener can ready themselves for the important information to come.

it just shows you the mentality of being a manics fan: naturally, assume the worst!
