Nicky Wire-esque Character in 2000AD Comic

Well, it was mentioned in Simon Price's 'Everything' that there was a character (named Domino) wearing a Manics shirt that also looked a bit like Nicky at the time in the comic 'Zenith' which was published in 2000AD from the late 80s-early 90s. According to someone on Tumblr, Domino appeared prior to the Manics becoming known, so the fact that he looks slightly like Nicky might be coincidental, but the fact that he's wearing a Manics shirt and gawking at a Manics vinyl just moments before his demise is a bit funny to me.

Here are the pages I've got (they're big so click on the thumbnails to view them:

Yeah I was thinking that since the character was apparently minor, when he made another appearance in the comic, the artist decided to make him resemble Nicky a bit. Not sure, I haven't read all of the comics yet.

This was published around 1992, long after 4 Real. The writer, Grant Morrison is a big music fan and has been in a couple of bands, his Doom Patrol and Animal Man runs famously reference R.E.M. so it's no coincidence, he would have been a big reader of NME back then. I have these 2000 AD's up in the loft somewhere, Zenith was a damn good comic.

Yeah I've managed to find downloads of Zenith and a bunch of other hard-to-find comics, so I'm pretty psyched about that. After reading up about the Manics references in 2000AD comics in the early 90s, I had to seek those out. There was a thread here a while ago I found about the Richey reference in a Judge Dredd comic, I believe:

I may be misremembering but I remember another Judge Dredd story that had something to do with Richey, I think one of the villains in Judge Dredd had a dial on his head and I'm sure he killed someone based on Richey or something, but this is all 20 years ago or so now so my memory isn't that great, sorry.

Haha aw, sounds like a lot of Manics-based comic book characters meet unfortunate ends.
