Cinematic Manics Songs
Hey all,
So I yet have another school project, this one is for the post-production audio class. Here's the deal I have to pick a film any film, it needs to be a scene that's kinda self-contained in that it kinda conveys a story itself, 1.5 to 3mins long. I can do a little bit of editing of the film but since this is an audio project I can't cut something up too much. I hand in the film I want to use, my professor takes it, strips all audio out of it I get back a completely silent piece of video. I need to score it, do the dialog myself (basically I need other students to recreate the lines used in the film, and add all sound effects and ambient noise. Fun-ski! Actually I think this will be pretty cool (I hope) So anyway, can anyone think of a Manics song that would work as music for a film scene? Remember I can edit the scene a bit, I can edit the song (in so much I can make it shorter or longer if necessary) and the music must convey the feeling of the film. Plus, this is a chance to make some new Manics fans...well possibly eighteen (fellow students and a professor) Oh, the scene can not have any gratuitous sex and violence and the dialog can't really have obscenities.  J

Hmmm..actually I was thinking of possibly one of the Stealth Sonic remixes. Perhaps A Design For Life?
I guess I'm kinda going backwards doing this thinking of the piece of music and then figuring out the film

Motorcycle Emptiness also springs to mind. You could make an awesome scene with All Is Vanity too. Elvis Impersonator: Blackpool Pier would work too, but it all kinda hinges on what kind of scene you're thinking of doing. Good luck with it though.

I always thought the beginning of Peeled Apples sounds like something that'd be in an action movie trailer... but as far as the theme of the scene goes, it depends. The things suggested so far have been great.

Thanks guys! Hmmm...All Is Vanity for something like a scene from a heavy drama something like that could work in something like Girl Interrupted or a similar type film.
If I didn't use the Manics, other scenes I was considering: Apocalypse Now - NIN/March of the Pigs, I also thought for Full Metal Jacket. Unkle's Burn My Shadow for something like a modern western. I can think of film scenes but then not the song to go with it, or I can think of cinematic songs, but not what movie to put it in Films for consideration - The Godfather (scene when Michael is at the Christening while the hits he ordered to kill the heads of the other families are being carried out and the scenes go back and forth) Blade Runner - song? Shinning - song? movie - Interpol/Not Even Jail movie - Radiohead/I Might Be Wrong Also thinking Kubrick, Hitchcock, Burton or some flim noir (thought this might be good for Not Even Jail) Sorry, I'm just thinking out loud, or typing out loud... Get a scene or two from Taxi Driver, the audio of Cardiff Afterlife.
Chop the shots up in the Taxi Driver scene and run them in reverse order (or just run the film backwards maybe? Or both?), reverse the audio of Cardiff Afterlife (the intro/middle8/ending bit before the lyrics come back in should give you plenty to mix up). Cardiff Afterlife is of course somewhat inspired by the original Bernard Herrmann Taxi Driver soundtrack. If you want to get really pretentious/philosophical about it all you could then reference Kierkegaard, "Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." I see you're in NYC too, so it's local interest for extra credit
