Best Lead Off Single By The Manics?
A poll to find the best lead off single from the Manics's last ten albums.
It starts from Stay Beautiful, so no Motown Junk and not Masses Against The Classes. If it wasn't on an album, it's not going in. And to make things more awkward, I'm going to have to leave off P.C.P. Whose poll is it anyway? Go for the song that struck you at the time, or if you weren't there at the time, which single did it most for you? Which single made you think "This album's going to be epic!" For me, despite coming on board in the mid 90's... I'm going for "So Why So Sad". Last edited by Son of Stopped; 20-12-2011 at 13:35. |

Gotta stay loyal to Tolerate haven't I?

For my own reasons I am choosing A Design For Life but in an ideal world it would be a dead heat between that and Faster.

Obvious choice but A Design For Life just edges it with Tolerate, Faster/PCP and Stay Beautiful coming in close joint seconds.

I picked Found That Soul because I had got into the band after they finished promoting TIMTTMY. So it was the first Manics single I bought 'at the time'.
But I do remember Design for Life at the time also. I loved the video. |

Very nearly went for Tolerate, simply because it's one of the best songs ever written by anyone, ever, but chose Faster.
Although I became a Manics fan much later than when it was released, Faster was the first time the Manics slapped me around the face and forced me to pay attention. It's power, intelligence and vitriol are just awesome, not to mention one of the most effective videos the band has ever made.

Best lead single, best single altogether - Faster.
If we were talking about the whole package, b-sides as well, Tolerate by a country mile. Although TBTGOG was also amazing for that.

What the shuddering fuck drove someone to vote for SWSS?

Found That Soul for me.
ADFL got me into the band in 1996, but I never bought the single at the time; I bought the cassette of Tolerate, but Found That Soul was the first proper single experience for me.
