Remixes - Full List

Apologies if this subject has been done to death already (I searched and found very little on remixes), but I have a shameless, joyful weakness for remixes of Manics tracks - some good, some bad, some brilliant, some woefully bad. As far as I have been able to tell, this is a full, roughly chronological list of the 68 remixes released officially, with roughly accurate titles:

Roses in the Hospital (51 Funk Salute mix)
Roses in the Hospital (ECG mix)
Roses in the Hospital (Filet-o-Gang mix)
Roses in the Hospital (O G Psychomental mix)
Roses in the Hospital (O G Psychovocal mix)
Faster (Chemical Brothers Dub Mix)
Faster (Chemical Brothers Vocal Mix)
Faster (Cosmos Mix)
Faster (7-11 Dub Mix)
La Tristesse Durera (Chemical Brothers Vocal Mix)

Ocean Spray (Ellis Island Sound Remix)

Ocean Spray (Medicine Remix)
There by the Grace of God (Saint Etienne Mix)
There by the Grace of God (Starecase Mix)
Umbrella (Grand Slam Mix)
Peeled Apples (Andrew Weatherall Remix)
Jackie Collins Existential Question Time (Saint Etienne Remix)
Me And Stephen Hawking (British Sea Power Remix)
This Joke Sport Severed (Patrick Wolf Love Letter To Richey Remix)
Journal For Plague Lovers (Optimo Espacio Remix)
She Bathed Herself In A Bath Of Bleach (Pariahs Remix)
Facing Page Top Left (Adem Remix)
Marlon J.D. (New Young Pony Club Wire Up Mix)
Doors Closing Slowly (The Horrors Remix)
All Is Vanity (Errors Remix)
Pretension/Repulsion (Four Tet Remix)
Virginia State Epileptic Colony (Fuck Buttons Remix)
William’s Last Words (Underworld Remix)
Bag Lady (Jonathan Krisp Remix)
Love's Sweet Exile (Acoustic Blue) (free download from Amazon via official website, 2011)
Europa Geht Durch Mich (Erol Alkan's Mesmerise Eins Rework)
Europa Geht Durch Mich (Erol Alkan's Mesmerise Zwei Rework)
Futurology (R. Seiliog Remix)

Repeat (Stars And Stripes) is effectively a remix but is also an album track so is not included here. In my records I also have Love Of Richard Nixon (Strachan Remix) but can't seem to locate where and when it was released - if it's a private remix rather than an official release please let me know. Similarly, if I have omitted anything please do say.

So: favourites? It has to be the Kinobe Mix of Ocean Spray, the Saint Etienne Remix of TBTGOG, the Jonathan Krisp Remix of Bag Lady and the Mogwai Remix of You Stole The Sun for me. What about everyone else?

The worst? There are a fair few generic remixes in the list above but my least favourite remix is the Horrors' Doors Closing Slowly. Now, I like the Horrors, but I'm far too impatient for three and a half minutes of feedback and suspense that goes nowhere.

Incidentally, I've not been able to obtain the Deadly Avenger 69th St. remixes of The Everlasting.

There's also "Love's Sweet Exile (Acoustic Blue)", think it was mp3 download only on Amazon?

Ah, that's right! I had completely forgotten about that. Added to the list as it counts as an official release, and as far as I can tell it's a remix rather than just an simple acoustic version (possibly a remix of an acoustic version). Thanks for the reminder.

I am ashamed to admit it (and I hope Flint will forgive me), but I owe everything to the Chemical Brothers (called, at the time, Dust Brothers) of La Tristesse Durera. I found that remix on the compilation album with the expanded soundtrack of the videogame Wipeout in 1999, and seven years later I listened for the first time to the original song and started my biggest musical love story to date. So: I don't like it that much, but I owe it everything. Really.

That's quite a nice story! We all find our way to the Manics via different paths.

The Dust Brothers/Chemical Brothers Remix of La Tristesse Durera isn't bad, but it is very much a typical early to mid 1990s 'generic' remix.

And 'The Everlasting (Stealth Sonic Orchestra Remix Instrumental)'.

If I remember, it has the same title either way, but the single version is instrumental while the FD Bonus Disc version has vocals.

Tolerate Massive Attack Instrumental Remix
Stole The Sun Joy Is The Ploy Remix
Tristesse Sunday Social Mix
Faster Cosmos Mix
Faster 7-11 Dub

Some of the remixes on the FD CD DVD are longer than the single versions

I don't count the St Et Jackie Collins as a remix, as is more of a cover version.

Thanks for these. I haven't heard the Sunday Social Mix, the Cosmos Mix, or the 7-11 Dub (that I remember) - where can they be found?

I hesitated about adding the Saint Etienne version of JCEQT for precisely the reason you mention but it's included on the JFPL Remixes collection so is presented as an official remix in any case.

By the same token LSE Acoustic Blue is also more of a version than a remix and is actually more similar in its characteristics to the Heavenly versions from GT than a genuine remix (although it may qualify as a remix of an acoustic version), but I'll leave it in the list for now.

There should also be instrumental versions of the Tsunami remixes which are found on the 12" promo.

Yep. I'm very fond indeed of the JFPL remixes - the very idea of doing a complementary album of remixes was a masterstroke, and even if the results were mixed (pun intended) I thought overall it was successful.

If I had my way there'd be one for every album, to be candid. It was a pity there were no remixes from PFAYM (particularly) or RTF, as I'm not a great fan of brass band sounds, so there's some scope for remixes to make me actually like some of the songs on the former.

What I love about remixes is that at their best they identify the essence of a track, amplify it, and take it in a completely unexpected direction (e.g. Kinobe Mix of Ocean Spray), quite aside from sounding utterly addictive.

Only Cornelius has an instrumental mix on my 12" XPR3320

Tristesse Sunday Social & Faster Cosmos & Faster 7-11 Dub are on a 12" entitled M.S.P. DONE & DUSTED

Though Tristesse Sunday Social can be found on compilation CD The RemiXfm VTDCD425.

They are variations on the Dust/Chemical remixes, but have vocals in different places. Hence the 'dust'ed. Still they're on vinyl which is where remixes should be.

Just noticed you need Let Robeson Sing Thee Glitz Mix by Felix da Housecat found on the Robeson 12"

It is different to The Electroretro Mix by Felix on the CD single

Remix collecting is a nightmare

Ok, wasn't enirely sure about both of them, but I knew for certain about the cornelius one.

Theres some variations of the Chemical Brothers's Everything Must Go.

The remix was on the their compilation album; Brothers Gonna Work it Out where it was blended with other remixes:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brother...ut_%28album%29

And then ther was a shorter cut used in the intro sequence for Gran Turismo
