No Surface All Feeling

In an interview (I sadly cannot remember which one) Sean said "I wrote that....in a tour bus...Richey wanted me to teach him how to play Smells like Teen Spirit"

Is it so? Did he write the whole music to that, incl. the vocal line?

No....I remember that vaguely too but I think it was a reference to trying to teach Richey how to play a few songs on geetar around that time and they didnt get very far with nirvana....the song was a Nicky and James affair

Sean wrote some of the music to it but I can't remember if that includes the riff. Other songs he has been confirmed to have had a big hand in writing the music for are : You Love Us, The Second Great Depression and Let's Go To War.

Sleepflower too I think?

No Surface is very much Smashing Pumpkins inspired than Nirvana, to the extent that in the demo version James introduces himself as "Hello I'm Billy Corgan!"

Maybe Removables is what the quote refers to?

This would actually make more sense, yes.

Sadly I cannot find the interview :-/ I can't even remember if it was a youtube video or an article. But the sentence definitely started with "I wrote that..." hm.. I think it was a video

You are the best <3

Thanks a lot. It would be great to ask them to provide more details one day. It seems to me like Sean has been playing a much more important role in the band than usually thought.

Thanks, that's a really good read. Slightly diverting the thread, it's intersting that comment about Firefight being caught between Truth and Lifeblood... I'm presuming that's meant in a musical way rather than timeline?

It does sound like Galapogos or Thru The Eyes Of Ruby etc on Mellon Collie... and James refers to him as "Billy Coogan" (like Steve Coogan)
